 Danse's P.O.V

 We're gonna strike first.

I don't think I've ever been so prepared to fight in my life. Adrian is right. We've been laying low for too long, it's time we fight back. The Elders took their first shot at us, something they won't accomplish twice. The Vyslock have a spy positioned within our confines, but that is a minor bump. It's time to show the Vyslock what we're made of.

I slip into a black V-neck, skinny jeans, and combat boots. I follow Saks and Jade down the hall, both dressed in complete black. Jade pushes the doors open; the three of us entering the courtyard with Adrian's pack members, my clan, Ansel's trusted rebel troops, and a few newborns.

"So is everyone ready?" I ask cracking my knuckles loudly. The crowd of allies uproars with chivalrous remarks such as 'Death to the Vyslock' and 'Long Live King Danse'. Even some of the werewolves spoke them. I guess they are finally starting to warm up to me.

"Danse," I spin on my heel; Perrie, Jade, Saks, and Kynar all standing together completely dressed in black.

 "Guys,"

"You didn't think we'd let you face the Vyslock alone, did you?" Saks says punching me in the shoulder playfully. I smile at my friends, then turn to the rebels. I scan over the faces of those that see pasts the Vyslock's facades.

"So where do we start?" Perrie asks.

                                                                             ***

I step out of Saks' van, my eyes quickly adjusting to the night. I look over my shoulder to Jade, she gives me a thumbs up, then along with Perrie scale up two nearby trees. Saks dumps the van in a hidden location, him and Kynar joining me on foot in their beast forms. I move quick, but slow enough for them to follow. I sniff the air, the scent of rot and retch filling my nose. I look over to the sandy-brown wolf, he swipes his snout, the scent penetrating his sniffer.

"This must be the flesh pits, the place they dispose of unwanted carcasses." it's revolting how little care these bastards have. Disposing of bodies in such a horrid way. Leaving them to rot and mold. "Come on,"

I stalk into the courtyard, my eyes widening at the crowd that has gathered. The whole Vampire kingdom is here, before them a scaffold stained and dripping with the blood of slaughtered humans and Vampires alike. What the hell has the Vyslock done?

Just as quick as the thought rose, the answer surfaces in the most heart wrenching way. Four hooded figures walk onto the scaffold, between two of them, a woman who's frail body could fall into dust in mere seconds. Her face sunken and eyes deathly dilated. Fear washes over me as the realization of who this woman hits me.

 Mom.

"People of the Vampire Kingdom, this is your fallen Queen. The mother of the Great Traitor." one of the hooded figures pulls his hood back, his head shaven and shined. I dig my nails into the ground as I watch him hold my mother loosely.

After countless scrutinizes of my family, and not even to mention the blood boiling comments made about Adrian, Mom is brought down to her knees. Her eyes are producing tears at an alarmed rate, her fragile body trembling in unconceivable terror. Two of the three remaining hooded figures takes each arm in their hands and the last taking her head in his bony fingers. I wish I could move, to make an attempt to save her, but I'm stuck. Incapable of making any advances toward the scaffolding. The bald Vyslock council man lifts his death white hand and just as it comes down to his side, the three others pull at their held parts.

I watch in utter and complete horror as my mother's blood spurts from the stump in which her head once sat upon her shoulders. Her body falls limp against the blood stained scaffold, her blood joining my father's. Both victims of the Vyslock's tyranny.

"Danse, we need to make our way to the Temple." Kynar holds my wrist pulling me along, my eyes still fixed on the scaffold, flames filling the stage as my mother's charring remains begin to leave ash slipping through the plank cracks. I fight my tears and pull away from Kynar, making my way to the palace.

Saks and I slip underneath the gate, Saks then takes hold allowing Kynar to roll underneath. Saks lets it down gently, we stalk into the shadows of the temple corridor and sneak our way towards the meeting room.

The silence between us is painful, not speaking only makes thinking about Mom so much worse. Because of me, my family is down to three. Thanks to Ansel our sister was sent to live with a different Vampire clan, at least until this war is at it's end.

"Boys," the two wolves look up to the sliver of a window, Perrie and Jade looking in, annoyed. Saks swiftly unlatches the window and the two slip into the darkness with us.

"Danse, I'm so sorry." Perrie says pulling me in for a hug. I hug her back, mumbling a 'thank you' before turning back to our main objective.

The farther into this wasteland of a temple, the worse death and decay seems to get. The Vyslock are demented creatures, and I'll be glad to end them with a quick removal of their head from their shoulders.

"Guys, in here." we all follow behind Jade, her boots clicking loudly against the bloodstained concrete. As we begin to move faster, my observance of Jade begins to thicken.

"Jade," I decide to speak once we've entered a large open room. She looks to me, something about the way she's positioned herself isn't right.

 "Yes, Danse?"

"How did you know where to go? You have never stepped foot into this temple, unless..." no. No, that couldn't be so. Jade wouldn't, she's my friend.

"Release it!" suddenly rows of flames ignite and before I'm able to react, Perrie, Saks, Kynar and I are incased in a large cage made of bone and iron. Unbreakable.

"Jade, you bitch! You set us up!" Saks growls, attempting to rip bars, but failing in the process. I stare in utter disgust, Jade smiling in the sickliest way imaginable.

 "Jade, how could you?"

"How could I? You betrayed our kind, defiled yourself, gave everything away for that damned wolf!" she yells, strolling around the cage. "You were destined for greatness, Danse, but then that little whore just came up pregnant and everything changed. But don't worry, him and those little abominations will be handled soon."

"Don't you dare lay a finger on my family!" I growl, Jade jumping back startled.

"Oh Danse, you didn't think it would work out any other way did you?" she taunts. "Those creatures are a curse on our kind, and all associated with it will perish. Starting with the giver of life, Adrian." Jade takes steps back, her face disgusted and angered.

I look to my friends, all of them glaring at Jade as the doors around us open.

"Take them to the dungeon. Tell Lord Hylon, I'll be finished with my task soon." Jade turns on her heels and walks away into the shadows, the only reminders of her presence being the sound of her joyous laughter and the surge of anger she's left in the wake of her betrayal.
