'Ethan Whitaker and Riley Stevens,' my heart skipped a beat.

Seriously? Ethan the nerdy guy partnering up with me for a humanities project? Humanities was the one thing that I detested. Who really cared about it?

Dayna, the school bitch. There she sat in all her mighty highness mocking my fortune. She thought she owned the world and while me and her had a fierce staring competition, I sensed someone's slimy gaze on my back. Reluctant to break the eye contact with Dayna, I turned around only to catch the nerd with a goofy grin drawn on his face. He walked to me briskly taking care of his long measured strides.

"I have done the research... if we complete the history of the planet first then move onto the...." he droned on and on until I nearly nodded off on the spot.

I grunted in frustration causing a smirk on the Queen bitch's face to spread wider.

"Come on lets start with the project." I said.

I marched over to the spare computers and logged on. It seemed like the longest double lesson of humanities studies. When it finally ended, on my way out, I looked over my shoulder and shouted out, "Project's all yours. Do with it what you want." Ethan looked like he was going to protest but when I winked at him, he started blushing furiously. I let out a loud laugh and made my way out of class.

I hastily put my books into my bag and headed towards my locker. We had a new neighbor moving in and the settling in was getting to me, the noise from the vans was too tiring. To put it in short, I was beyond tired. When I put my books into my locker, I was just about to leave when my best friend Kathy called my name out.

"Riley!"

I turned around and met her warm smile. I smiled back, then we hooked arms and walked home.

'So, after maths, I went to my locker to put my books back and guess what!?" Kathy exclaimed.

"What?" I sighed. My instincts told me that this had to be something to do with a guy.

"I found this, an envelope with my name written on it.. AND, I haven't even opened it! I was thinking I would open it when I saw you. Cause ya' know its not everyday you get a mystery envelope hiding in your locker!"

"Alright so what you waiting for? hurry up and open it!" I tried to join in on her melodramatic mood.

Kathy's eyes twinkled with excitement and she teared open the envelope. Shortly after, she squealed so high, I was convinced that it could shatter any windows.

"What.." I began but I was cut off before I could even finish my sentence.

"OH MY GOD! Are you serious!? You won't understand what this means, everyone will be there and there will obviously be a chance to hookup and find a date for prom!" She let out another high pitched squeal, "No way! it says you can bring up to 2 people with you! Come on we need to go and pick our outfits. the party is Friday night which means its the day after tomorrow!"

"Woah woah. Hold up. Gimme." I took the scrap of paper out of her hand and quickly scanned it. "Oh. Just an invite to a party."

She slapped my arm and snatched the invite from my fingertips.

I gave her the look and sighed. This meant that I had no choice to do anything other than agree and go to the party. She wiggled her eyebrows at me suggestively. Followed by a pout and the classic puppy eyes.

"Ugh okay." I groaned.

Kathy giggled and went on and on about her new outfit ideas. We turned the corner and I caught the silhouette of a figure standing outside my home. He was new, I had never seen him before and he was standing directly below my bedroom window! Something about him was mesmerizing.

Apple and Cinnamon.. The smell was light at first but after I hugged Kathy goodbye, it became almost overwhelming.

I staggered forward to my front door. No one was home.

My vision was suddenly blurred and I doubled up on the floor. I retched and retched but nothing came out. As I got back up on my two feet, I felt a firm grip on my waist. I spun around and saw a pair deadly black eyes absorbing me. I gasped but my hero smiled and moved my dark hair behind my ear. I tried to get up but the hold on my waist tightened and I felt myself limp in his arms. That's when he picked me up bridal style and walked not towards my front door, but towards my next door neighbors front door. And that's when it dawned on me, this new guy taking me into his home, alone, with me nearly unconscious could end up horribly wrong...
