A few weeks later and it was April fourth, Laura's birthday. Since her last birthday, when her parents were out of town, her little sister threw her a party, nearly causing her house to burn down. Never, ever, trust Laina with candles, matches, and napkins.

But this year, Laura specifically said that she didn't want Laina to throw her a party. But, she never said that she didn't want a party.

So, Trevor texted me, asking where, when, and what we needed for her surprise party.

Hey, i wuz wunderin if u could bring the chipz and sweetz, kk?

Yeah, sure. Dude, listen, no pigging out, okay? I'm using the money I got from babysitting and walking dogs, so eat good.

When hve u nown me 2 eat piggish?

Ever since I've known you.

Touche. But i promiz tht i wont pig out.

Yeah, you better. Bye.

Kowabunga!

I couldn't help but chuckle as I read his stupid text. Getting up from my seat on the couch, I grabbed the brown messenger bag that was hanging off of the coat rack before walking out side.

The noon sun shone brightly above me, making me even hotter than I already was. I looked both ways before crossing the street and walking to the left, towards the direction of the local grocery store.

Once I reached the small building, I walked inside, loving the cooling feeling that pricked my skin. Almost immediately, my eyes landed on a giant bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos...on sale.

Just as my fingers touched the bright red bag, it was snatched out of my grasp by tan hands. Looking up with a glare, my eyes connected to laughing blue-grey ones.

"You wanted these?" he asked, holding up the shiny bag of deliciousness.

"Yes, I do want them," I told him, knowing that my voice sounded as if I had a really bad cold and lost my voice.

"Well, what will you do if I gave you these?" he asked, holding them in front of my face.

"I'll...invite you to Laura's surprise birthday party?" I shot back with a raised eyebrow.

He pretended to think a bout it, even putting a hand on his chin and scratching his invisible mustache.

"Nope!" he exclaimed.

With a pout, I hung my head and walked passed him, feeling sorry over my lost cheesy-goodness. I walked over towards the back of the store, looking for the cookies and candies.

I felt a warm hand on my shoulder, causing me to turn around to face Nathaniel. He gave me a small smile before handing me the chips.

"Hey, I was only kidding," he smiled.

"I know that," I whispered, taking the bag from his grasp. "Thanks."

After I grabbed all of the necessities, I walked back up to the registers, taking out the eighty-five dollars and seventy-eight cents. But, before I could give the cashier the money, a hand was already pulling away from the cashier.

I looked up to see Nathaniel putting back some loose change into his pocket. I gave him a confused look before retrieving the multiple bags from the spinny thingy.

As I walked outside, I felt the same warm presence that I always felt when I was next to Nathaniel. Looking up, I saw him smiling down at me. And I couldn't help but smile back.

The party was n't as major as it was last year, but that was a good thing. After all, Trevor's parents were cops. People drinking, others making out, and many, many others dancing wildly covered every corner.

I stood to the far back next to the punch bowl, slowly sipping away out of my purple cup. My blue eyes scanned over the crowd, spotting Laura.

As I walked over to her, I accidently bumped into people, apologizing for it. When I finally reached her, I smiled widely, nearly knocking her over as I squished her in a hug.

"Happy Birthday!" I exclaimed in her ear.

"Thank you!" she screamed back, obviously happy.

Suddenly, I was pulled backwards and into someone's hard chest. Looking up, I saw the familiar jaw line of my brother.

Come dance with Mia and I, he signed, pointing over to where Mia was standing with a huge smile on her face.

I nodded and walked over to her, giving her a small hug. Nathaniel stood next to her, trying to push off a girl that was clinging to his side.

Thirty minutes later, I was dancing, smashed up in between Laura and Mia. Spencer pulled Mia away and Trevor pulled away Laura, leaving me to dance by myself.

But I was soon joined by the one and only, Nathaniel. We began to dance on each other, bledning into the crowd.

The beat of the music was taking over me. I was caught up in the silent music. And before I knew it, I was facing Nathaniel, a certain look in his eyes.

We continued to dance on each other, not looking away from each other. Adrenaline rushed through me and I did something I never, ever thought I would ever do in my life time.

I kissed him.
