Prologue ( Love Me )
-
(Natsu and Lucy are currently in the third grade).
-
"Natsu!~" The blonde shouted from across the hallway. Natsu, who at the time, was emptying his school essentials into a small cubby, looked toward her.
"Oh hey'a Luce!" He shouted back. 'Luce' was the nickname he had given her in kindergarten, when they met. The two met randomly, and they kinda just clicked, nothing more, nothing less. But he had other friends, who were into sports, and Natsu talked to them more than to her. She wanted so bad to be the only one he spoke to, to be his BEST friend. But she knew that probably wouldn't happen.
"How was your summer?" Lucy asked, her heart racing with excitement at the chance to start a conversation with the pink haired boy.
"Meh, pretty good," he said with a shrug, trying to stuff his backpack into the small cubby, "My dad's trying out for a new job that's gonna get us a lot more money!"
"That's great!" Lucy smiled at him. Finally getting everything into his cubby, Natsu looked at Lucy with a teethy grin, "How was yours?"
Lucy tried to hide a frown. "Awful", she wanted to say, "Lonely". Ever since her mother died, Lucy's father had become harsh and abusive to her, but Natsu didn't need to know about this. What would he think of her if he knew about her father and her mother? About their some-what fortune? But why did it matter what he thought, and why was his opinion so important to her? Ok, ok, so what if it's a small crush. Realizing her long silence she said,
"Great," but it came out in a loud squeaky tone.
The boy slanted his head unconvinced, but moved on, "That's good."
Lucy's face grew a bright red. She was still confused by these emotions, but she was positive it was...love. That mysterious word she had heard her whole life, but it was only the family type love. Love between two people, was brought up by another kid last year. Some guy with orange hair or something. But she was sure this was it! She spun around in her spot, making this new feeling last as long as she could. Lucy Heartfilia's crush on Natsu Dragneel would make her become extremely close to him throughout the rest of the third grade.

(The last day of third grade)
-
Lucy eagerly looked for her crush before the end of the school day. She needed to see him one last time before summer. And she might just be able to brush past his hand! Lucy had a smile stretched from cheek to cheek, and a small blush. Racing towards the boy's cubby. She expected Natsu to be struggling with removing his backpack, but he wasn't there. She then ran towards the school doors, deciding at least talking to him briefly would suffice. When Lucy got there she leaned over to catch her breath. She was glad to see Natsu by the school doors, but, he was frowning. She walked up to him,
"What's wrong Natsu?" She asked. Natsu jumped as if surprised by her voice,
"Oh, Lucy...!" He stammered.
"Wait, not Luce?" She thought.
"Hey Lucy...there's something I need to tell you something..." He looked away.
"What is it?" Lucy spoke with a look of confusion. The school bell rang and they walked outside, being slightly pushed by the other eager children. The two sat in the courtyard. Since it was early spring, the cherry blossom trees were just starting to bloom.
"Lucy..." Natsu began. For the strangest reason, her heart started to race. But after the two words he spoke, the world seemed to end. The way he said them, the sadness in his voice, she couldn't hear it, to her, it just looked like his lips were moving.
"I'm moving..." Natsu's shoulders sank almost as much as Lucy's heart.
"M-moving...!?" She yelled, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Its because of my dads job- I'm leaving the country next week..." He too, was crying, but not as much as Lucy.
Lucy was devastated. She knew she would never see him again. This very moment, was the last time she would see the one she cared for so dearly, the only one that could ever be the one to fill a large void in her heart from the death of her mother. Now she wasn't just sad, she was angry. Yelling with rage she said,
"Why didn't you tell me sooner! Why...!" The blonde's hands were clenched into fists. She felt two arms stretch around hers, locking her into a hug.
"I'm sorry," he whispered, holding back tears, "I'm so, so sorry."
Lucy almost sunk into the hug, but at the time she was so filled with grief and betrayal, she pushed him away.
"You were my first friend! You where one of the two people I thought cared about me! But I thought wrong! You're leaving me, just like my mother did! I thought I could trust you, I thought I could lean on you when I needed too, because that's what best friends do...! But...but..." She couldn't continue. Lucy, a third grade girl, was crying to hard to continue the harsh reality she felt. She slowly got up, not wanting to be in the presence of the boy who had torn her emotions in half. But before she ran away, she said what she felt,
"Natsu Dragneel, I hate you...!"
Natsu, watching his best friend run away haunted by her feelings, heard a car horn from behind him. That was his ride. If almost reading both kids emotions, drops of rain began to fall from a grey sky. As Natsu got inside the car, Lucy too got inside a car as well. Her abusive fathers butler behind the wheel. They were both driving on two different roads, to two different places in life. But there is always a crossroad...one that would lead these two to meet again...
