Lucy stood there, eyes wide. A part of her had so many questions, but she couldn't put them into words. The other part was only full of sadness and grief. The blonde shook away the boys hand from her shoulder and backed a step away. For a brief moment, she forgot that she was in school.
"How have you been?" Natsu put on a small smile.
How could he smile? Lucy felt a touch of anger, but looking at his face made her feel oddly happy. After all those years of forcing herself to hate this boy, could she really have been missing him? As if realizing she wasn't going to reply,
"I'm sorry about...y'know," Natsu said, making it seem like the concept was extremely awkward. To be honest, the blonde thought it was.
Lucy still had no words. Maybe they could be friends again? No. What was she thinking! It's all his fault. He probably had a lot of fun and met a whole bunch of new people. One's that could replace herself. Not wanting to talk to the boy, she started to walk away, but a hand grabbed hers. Lucy's heart skipped a beat, but only for a second.
"I have nothing to say to you Mr. Dragneel," she spoke, including a bit of anger to make the statement seem fierce.
Natsu was confused. Why hadn't she called him by his first name? They were friends, weren't they? That's what he had always thought. Even after that one day when he left her crying, they could still be what they were, couldn't they?
Natsu was determined to make things right, and to be able to feel as close to Lucy as he used to.
"Lucy, please listen."
She looked at him. Her eyes were the beautiful brown he remembered.
The hallways were clear now. They were both alone.
"I had no choice. If I could have stayed, I would've."
Lucy sighed.
"Why are you back then?" She asked, not looking the boy straight in the eye. With her sharp tone, it seemed like she didn't want him back at all.
"The job my dad applied for only lasted a couple of years, after that we moved back to this area. I ended up going to a different school." The blonde's expression didn't change,
"You have every right to be mad, but, can you just give me another chance?" The pinkette pleaded.
The blonde looked up at him,
"I'm not ready."
Natsu's heart sank. Not ready?
"What do you mean?"
"You wouldn't understand," Lucy replied.
The bell rang. Lucy turned around, not wanting to be late. She began to walk away when Natsu yelled,
"Then make me understand!"
Lucy stopped for a moment.
"You're still so dense..."
And that was the end of it.

During PE, Levy and Lucy began talking to Juvia. They found out that she was actually a really nice girl.
"Lucy-san must have been really popular at her old school," Juvia teased.
"N-Not really!" Lucy replied, waving her hands frantically in the air.
"Oh yes! Especially with the guys!" Levy joined.
"Levy not you too!"
"Speaking of it, who was that guy you were talking to?" Levy asked.
"What guy?"
"The guy you were talking to, with the pink hair."
Had Levy seen Lucy talking to Natsu?
"Just an old friend..."
Levy snickered, "An old boyfriend?"
Lucy's face lit up,
"What!? No! Me? Date him? Ha!"
She would never date Natsu! Sure, maybe she had a crush on him before, but those feelings were long gone. Once she calmed down, Lucy popped a question,
"What about you and Gray, Juvia? Are you like, together?"
Juvia's mood changed completely.
"Is Lucy-san after Gray-sama?!"
Lucy jumped. She swore she could see smoke coming out of the bluenette's ears.
"No! That's not why I asked. I just-"
Lucy didn't try any further.
Then Levy stepped in, "Calm down Juvia, Lucy was just teasing."
Juvia returned to her normal self, and they continued to talk. It was the start of a beautiful friendship!

At home, the blonde fell onto her bed, her legs hanging off the edge. The day was finally over.
She sighed. Lucy was pretty sure her and Juvia were friends now, and that made her smile brightly. There were still so many people she could meet!
Lucy still had a few hours before supper, so she decided to get her homework done early. It was a stupid assignment about how the day had gone. Next to each question there were three boxes labeled Good, Normal, and Bad. The questions were things like, How was the lunch meal, or, How were the students around you acting. Lucy marked Goods in almost every one because that's clearly what the teachers wanted. When she was done she put it back into her bag, so she wouldn't forget it tomorrow.
A low voice called from downstairs. It was her father.
"What is it?"
A man came through the door with a box. Lucy's father, Jude, set the box down beside the blonde on the floor.
"I found this in the storage room," Jude stated, "I thought you might like to look through it." And with that her father was gone.
-
Lucy sat down on her floor and pulled the box over to herself. She had never seen this box before, so she was excited to see what was inside. When the blonde pulled the lid open, she saw piles of paper and drawings. Then she turned it over to look at the side of the box. When she did, she saw writing.
It said,
"K-3, Her happy years"
Then, Lucy looked back at all the papers. She pulled out the very first one. On it was a drawing of three stick figures. Two of which had long, golden strips of hair, and the other had a clump of dark yellow for hair on its head. Lucy smiled at this. She immediately remembered that she drew this back in first grade. It was of her family. When they were a whole. She hugged the picture closely to her chest, and then set it aside. Lucy looked at each paper carefully, until she came across a small notebook. At first, Lucy didn't remember what it was, but when she started flipping page after page, all the memories flooded back. They were still stick figures, but each one had a meaning. She drew every picture as a memento of her first love. Each page held a different scene of her figure and a boy. A boy with cherry pink hair. In one image, there was one where the blonde and pinkette were sitting at a table, holding brushes, and painting I'm art class. One where they were eating lunch. Another, with them playing outside on the playground. By the end, Lucy was bawling. And then the last page made her break completely. When the final page was turned, she saw herself laying on her knees, underneath a cherry tree. In the distance the pinkette was walking away of into the sunset. Even though that day wasn't sunny at all, Lucy pictured a sunset whenever she thought about it. A sunset, something that represents the end of the day. The boy walking towards the sunset, that represented the end of her feelings for him. The red tint in the sunset represented the girls rage at the boy.
Lucy closed the book and put it back in the box. She covered her face as whipped her tears rapidly. The blonde then put everything exept the picture she drew of her family back in the box, and pushed it under her bed. She decided she had to stop thinking about Natsu, or else she would never move on. Them getting together was too likely, and she couldn't let that happen. Lucy did not at all want to attend school tomorrow, but she had no choice. Her father called her down for dinner, and she quickly pulled herself together. She waited till her face wasn't red, and then she slowly walked down to eat.
