PROLOGUE ~ DRIVE BY HALSEY

Corinne's POV

"I need to go to the store, do you want to come along, Corinne?" I quickly nod in agree as I put on my shoes. My mom smiles and starts up the car. I grab my phone off the table and plug in my headphones, starting to play my music softly.

(A/N: okay logically, her phone wouldn't be able to play music yet and it would be like 2004 or something so idk logic. it's a fanfiction. and what's a fanfiction if i can't involve a halsey song)

My hands wrapped around the stick shift

Swerving on the 405,

I can never keep my eyes

Off this

My neck, the feeling of your soft lips

Illuminated in the light,

Bouncing off the exit signs

I missed

All we do is drive

All we do is think about the feelings that we hide

All we do is sit in silence waiting for a sign

Sick and full of pride

All we do is drive

I hummed along quietly to the beginning lyrics of the song, smiling as I got into the backseat of the car mindlessly. We drove the usual way to the supermarket, it was nothing special. The drive usually takes a few minutes driving so I spent the time in the backseat finishing up the last chapter in the Harry Potter fanfiction I was reading. I continued to hum the lyrics to Drive; the song was almost over. The last few lines were coming up.

All we do is drive

All we do is think about the feelings that we hide

All we do is sit in silence waiting for a sign

Sick and full of pride

We were almost there, a couple streets away, we just needed to cross the busiest street in town and turn left. Seemed simple enough to me. I practically grew up learning the way.

And California never felt like home to me

I never heard that last line before everything went black.

I woke up to a lot of beeps. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. I started laughing quietly at them. Where's my mommy? Where am I? There was the beeping machine to my right and a bunch of tubey things connected to me. I want to go home! I start crying loudly and finally my daddy and another man with doctor clothing rush in.

"Oh good she's awake! Hi Corinne! Are you okay?"

"What?" I say, dazed. "Where am I? I want to go home!" I scream. Daddy comes to my side and comforts me.

"Everything is going to be okay, Cori." My dad says softly.

"How old are you?" The man asks.

"5. I'm 5 years old." I reply, smiling, holding up 5 fingers.

"Oh no."

I jump off my bed after pulling the tubey things off of me and start wandering the halls. Everything was really white. And boring. They should make everything pink and glittery. And add unicorns. Unicorns are really pretty. My mommy showed me a picture of one. I see daddy in the hallway but he's talking to the doctor man again. I hide behind a chair and listen. (a/n: improper grammar since she's 5. deal with it. go read your kindergarten work. ily though <3 )

"During the crash, she hit her head on one of the core parts of her brain. That impacted her memory and her psychology. She's now reliving her 5 year old self again. Since she's 15, 10 years have been taken away from her mentally." The doctor explains to daddy as daddy nods every few words.

"Yeah. Is there any way to fix it?" Daddy asks. I step back a bit and accidentally hit a fake plant. Whoopsie. Daddy and the doctor immediately turn around and look as I duck under a chair for cover. They shrug and continue talking.

"No, not yet." The man replies calmly.

"So she's stuck like this forever?" Daddy asks, his voice getting higher.

"At this point, possibly." I gasp, covering my mouth and I hit the fake plant again. Stupid plant.

asdfjkl; i actually really enjoy how it's coming out and i think you'll like the next few chapters. a bit of a filler for the next few chapters but it's the beginning, what do you expect. beginning is always v slow
