Liam's POV
2 Years Later...
Moving to a new house was just great. The constant screams of "LIAM! DON'T FORGET THIS BOX!" rang through my ears as I became very good at carrying boxes up and down hallways.
I lugged the last of my boxes into my new room. It took me a while, having to go up a staircase with a heavy box full of random trinkets and assorted items that I stuffed inside. This new room was mine. It had a warm, rustic, feel. Something a lumberjack would love to live in. I unboxed the first box which contained all of my blankets and sheets and laid the flannel pattern comforter on the empty mattress. After 16 minutes and 39 seconds of wrestling with the sheets, I finally got the bed made with a nice red and black plaid comforter. I move the bedside tables from outside the hallway to next to my bed and before long, I had unboxed a good majority of my things, my dresser slowly filling up. I stuffed the empty boxes back into the closet. It was getting dark out, it was 6:34 and I had done a majority of my unpacking. I turned on my cellular data, since my dad or I hadn't set up the internet yet, and saw that my girlfriend was online on Skype. I called her and she quickly accepted the call and in seconds, I saw her beautiful face take over the blue screen.
"Hey Gwen. How are you, hun?" I ask as she moves around, trying to grab her phone.
"Well my boyfriend isn't next to me cuddling me, so sort of sucky." She replies with a wrinkled nose. I laugh at her stupidity and smile. She's pretty, she has a short pixie cut, where she dyed her hair bright red and is sporting her Twenty One Pilot shirt. She's put most of her hair in a black beanie and she's smiling like an idiot.
"I love youuuuuuuu today!" I exclaim making a heart with my hand.
"I don't love you though!" She says in a sarcastic voice. I stick my tongue out and she starts a laughing fit.
"I miss you, you dork," she barely makes out.
"I miss you too." I reply softly. I hear distant yelling and Gwen sighs.
"Ugh, mom wants me to clean my room and study for my test. I'm not going to do either, but might as well try. See you Liam!" She complains as she starts to wave goodbye.
"Bye, hun. Talk to you later?"
"Sorry, I won't be able to. I wish I could." She says with a groan.
"Okay, bye," I say as she ends the call. A solid 3 minute call. I sigh in disappointment. My second to last year of high school and I had moved away from my girlfriend and friends. And my only source of income. Great.
"HEY MOM? CAN I GO OUT?" I yell from my room.
"GET DOWNSTAIRS AND ASK ME!" She screams in reply. With a sigh of defeat, I go downstairs and find my mom in the living room, unpacking her large collection of books.
"Can I go out?" I ask her.
"Sure, make some friends. Don't die. Don't get drunk."
"Thanks." I leave the house quickly, shutting the door quietly and pulling my light jacket on. For a late August evening, it was quite cold. I started to walk around the neighborhood, it wasn't the richest but it was nice. The houses were well built and it was a nice suburban street. None of the neighbors had introduced themselves yet, but it was a Thursday night and not many people would be free. I knock on the door of the house on our left, a nice cream colored house that had luscious green grass and a Lexus parked out front.
A woman opens the door, she's obviously tired, you can tell by her dark circles. She had a nice sweater on, and her hair done in a complicated but now very messy up-do.
"Hello ma'am! I'm your new neighbor, Liam Heneghan. Nice to meet you!" I say cheerfully.
"Hello! Hi, I'm sorry, I'm a mess right now. My daughter is playing right now and I'm really just frazzled. I'm Athena. Athena Goldman. Sorry, I really didn't mean to look like a mess right now. After all, I'm wearing bright pink sweatpants." She says with a sigh. "I really could use a babysitter but no one wants the job."
(A/N: i just made an irl friend reference. sorry guys cx i'd probably add more of you in it liek grace but i don't think you want the whole internet to know your last name cx)
"I could possibly be your babysitter? I need a job and I just moved in so this would be a great way to meet some people and get some money on the sidelines." I offered with Mrs. Lou giving me a huge smile.
"Oh my! Really? Here, come in, I can give you the information about the job, and if you're still interested we'll meet on Saturday at 3 pm. Sounds good?" She says with a huge smile. I nod with a smile. "Thank you so much! Here, come in! Come in!" She says welcomingly. I come in, taking my shoes off and awkwardly follow her into the living room. The radio was softly playing in the background.
Your heart's too big for your body
It's where your feelings hide
They're pouring out
Where everyone can see
This seems oddly relatable. Everyone knew me back in my old town, I was dating the most popular "emo" girl in the school. She had a short pixie cut, bright red hair, and loved Twenty One Pilots and Panic! At The Disco. Everyone loved her, every girl wanted to be her and every guy wanted to date her. But, everyone knew I was practically infatuated with her.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I don't know why the radio started playing, Usually we don't have the radio playing, we don't want Corinne to get explicit thoughts." Mrs. Goldman says as she runs over to the stereo to turn it off. "Ah, here it is." She hands me a poster that had all the requirements and a little bit about Corinne.
"Thanks," I say, starting to read over the sheet. "I should probably go, I'll think about the job and if I'm still interested, I'll call you to schedule something?" I ask as I start to awkwardly move towards the door.
"Sounds great! My number's on the sheet. I hope you adjust here easily." She says with a warm smile, escorting me out the door. I smile back and quickly shove the paper into my pocket after I leave.
I'll get a job, just not now.
I keep walking through chilly August evening, what's Gwen doing right now? She's probably off having fun.
I was too busy thinking about Gwen to realize what song was playing in the background.
They call you cry baby, cry baby
But you don't f**king care
Cry baby, cry baby
So you laugh through your tears
