Loner Girl and Loner Boy

Vanellope stared down at her tablet, furiously drawing. It was a car, of course; what else? Well, okay, so there were other things, but you couldn't tell anyone that (Vanellope didn't want to give in to actually like something as boring as drawing). But this was a serious drawing, It was what she wanted her car to look like. She'd already decided on the kind of engine, body, suspension, transmission, wheels, frames, interior material, as well as theories to lower the resistance. (Much to her brother's amazement). It was why every saw her a weird too. Yes, almost everyone wanted to be a racer (part of the aftershock of living in the same small town as a world renowned race car driver), but Vanellope took it to a different, crazier level. Did Ralph (her brother) advise against it, especially since she already has a condition? Yeah. But you couldn't tell a ten-year-old girl what to do. Or, probably better, you couldn't tell Vanellope what to do. Ever.

At times, it came to bite her in the butt. People that found her weird became her bullies (everyone). And sometimes, Vanellope condition plus her obsession, equaled huge frustration. Speaking of the stupid glitch in her body... Vanellope looked up as she heard Ralph's guff in awe. Her mouth hung open too.

Ralph was taking her to a doctor's appointment in San Fransokyo. Vanellope had become something of a medical mystery. They visited every doctor until the money became too hard to find, but then, by some miracle, doctors became willing to do it for research, hoping to be able to diagnose or at least find the root of Vanellope's problem. So far, zilch. And it was only getting worse. But San Fransokyo had some of the smartest people. Period. It was also a HUGE city, something she and Ralph were not used to. Sugar Rush was a small down, the ones that people got stuck in for one reason or another and never got unstuck. But San Fransokyo... had GINORMOUS skyscrapers. Blimps supporting the city's energy in the sky, a gazillion stores, and people. Everywhere.

"Wow. No wonder San Fransokyo has the smartest people in the world. They have all the people in the world." Vanellope joked.

Ralph looked over, "Wouldn't say that, kid."

Vanellope raised an eyebrow and gave Ralph a blank stare, "I was kidding."

"Always hard to tell with you." (1)

Vanellope couldn't stop staring. All the way to the hospital.

It wasn't a hospital, per se, really. It was a school. With really smart doctors in it. Vanellope was led through the school, and couldn't help but notice the engineering section. Not a single car. Or even vehicle. Vanellope gave a sigh and dully noted it. They exited and came to the medical building. There's Vanellope went through her regular routine. It wasn't supposed to be that way, but doctors didn't realize how tedious it was getting for her to hear the same introductions and explanations over and over again, just with different names. But this time was different.

"Alright, well we have prodigy here for an internship. This is Tadashi. He'll be with me as we go through with this." Doctor Veronica said, sitting Vanellope n a chair, most likely for blood samples. Like she said, back of her hand. Doctor Veronica left with Ralph to go over the things he was okay with and to sign paperwork yada, yada. Same, same. But this 15 year old, Tadashi was in there with her, waiting patiently.

"You're new." Vanellope said casually.

Tadashi smiled. "Well, you haven't yet been here before so you probably are— "

Vanellope snorted, "I meant in general.," Vanellope sighed in between, "I've been to a billion of these and still. Nothing, Nada. Zip."

Tadashi nodded, this time less professionally, and more sympathetically. Also, awkwardly. "Uh... yeah. Um, so... What do you like to do..?"
