"Scarlett, I need you to run some errands around D.C." Mr. Tevel knocks on my office door before opening it.
I look up from the files I'm sorting to give him a quick nod.
"Okay, sir." I say and he clears his throat.
"Now, Blondie." He says and closes the door. I stand up and straighten my dress out before opening the door to meet him.
He sends me to various places around the city and once I'm done I stop at a local shop to pick up a coffee for myself and Mr. Tevel.
As I'm getting my coffee I hear a couple to my left talking about the president.
"Did you hear that the president took executive order to start this new Peace Corps thing?" The man asks.
"Yes and I honestly don't know why people voted for him. He's making our country go down the drain, you mark my words. He's nothing but trouble."
I shrug off their comments. I don't really know that much about the president but I did vote for him and I think he's doing just fine so far.
I adjust the pearls around my neck while I wait for the guy to put the lids on the coffee cups.
"Thank you." I say as he hands them to me. He nods and I make my way back to the office.
Once I give Mr. Tevel his drink he tells me that I'm off for the rest of the night and I can finish the files tomorrow. I'm actually disappointed because I have nothing to do and still only know the people I work with, and barely know them at that.
I decide to go apartment hunting since my stay at the hotel has gone on far too long. I stop at the hotel to change into shorter heels and grab my purse.
As I'm about to leave the room I hear the phone ring.
"Yes?" I answer.
"Is this Ms. Scarlett Tanner?"
"Yes, this is she."
"Ms. Tanner, the president would like you to come in and fill out some paperwork."
The president?
"Um, right now? and for what?"
"The president would like you to become his private secretary, but of course if you choose to, you could also still work at the capital building. You can come in whenever you like."
This is absolutely crazy!
"Okay. I'll be in as soon as possible." I say and hang up the phone. I put my other white taller heels back on and change into my casual light pink dress.
I call a taxi to take me to the White House and everything happens far too quickly. As we get closer and go through security I get more nervous. Why would he want me to be HIS secretary? He doesn't even know me. How did he find the hotel to call? I guess he is the president after all...
"Miss Scarlett, we're here." I hear the driver say and take in a deep breath.
He comes to my door and opens it, I give him the money for driving me and make my way to the door.
I'm about to knock when someone else opens it. Are you suppose to knock at the White House? I'm not sure and I kind of laugh at the thought, considering I've never been here before.
"You must be the new secretary." A tall man in a black suit says. I give a small nod and he continues. "You can follow me into the Oval Office." The Oval Office? I'm actually going to see the President?
"Can I ask why he wanted to move me here to work?" I ask the man.
"President's orders. That's all I know."
I follow down the elaborate hallways and gasp at how beautiful it is.
