Chapter 8

The highly anticipated trip to nationals had finally dawned over the swim team.
Everyone was excited, pumped to win.
Except for Rei and Haru.
Rei was nervous that he would mess up their relay and make them lose.
Haru didn't care. As per usual.
Rin? Rin was super excited, along with some nervousness.
Scouts were going to be there, to watch them swim, and possibly scout them into colleges.
No pressure though right?

Haru was getting real tired of sitting in a smooshed car with 5 other people.
They were literally packed into a car. A 3 seat car.
Rei was on the left, Nagisa sat on his lap, because he was the lightest.
And Makoto was on the right, taking up enough space as it is.
Plus Miss Ama and Gou in the front seats.
Haru's spinal cord along with his kidneys and lungs were about to spontaneously combust if Nagisa didn't stop elbowing him and Makoto stopped being so tall.
Haru didn't usually lose his cool and snap, especially at his friends.
But seriously, this was too much.
He just wanted to sleep.
That's it.

All they've been doing is hard straining practice. Thanks to Gou. 
Haru kept thinking back to Rin's offer.
'Y'know, you could always take the bus with me. It'd probably be more fun than a squished minivan ride.'
How Haru wished he agreed with Rin instead of denying and saying something about not being on their team.
Rin was so right. Haru made a small mental reminder to agree next time, just as Nagisa's elbow digs into his sore rib. The one that he had been continuously elbowing in the exact same spot for the last hour or so.

Haru cringed and grasped his side, hissing in pain, hoping Makoto didn't see.
He'd never let him swim if he saw the likely bruise that was forming.

"You alright Haru?" Makoto leaned down to look at the raven who was cringing slightly.
Haru nodded stiffly in return to Makoto's question, hoping he'll just drop the topic, although, he knew Makoto wasn't going to do that.

"Don't lie to me Haru. Are you alright?" Makoto hardened his voice to a stricter level and stared down at Haru, scanning his face for any hints that he may be lying.

"Yes." Haru nodded again, and brushed off Makoto, instead focussing on the passing scenery.
Makoto wasn't too sure that Haru was alright, he did jolt quite a bit when he was elbowed.
But, Makoto didn't push any further, if Haru didn't want him to know, what place was he in to figure it out?

Haru stepped out of the hot car, into the warm air outside of the hotel they were staying in.
He cracked his back a little as he stretched, his shirt riding up a bit, gaining Rin's attention quickly.

Haru winced slightly, a pained expression on his face from the bruise on his rib cage.
His hand rushed down to grasp the area, hoping to relieve some pain before Rin noticed.

"What's up, Haru?" Rin jogged over excitedly, like a little kid, instantly erasing Haru's pained look with a small smile.

"I should have taken you up on that offer." Haru grabbed his bag from Makoto and watched Rin.

"Yeah, you should have. It was super boring on the bus, what with you not being there to tickle or sleep with." Rin mentioned before slinging an arm around Haru's shoulders and greeting the other team members.

"Sup." he waved lazily then guided the raven to the front door, holding it open, and bowing like an old butler sarcastically, Haru ruffled his hair and continued inside with Rin behind him.

Leaving the Iwatobi Swim Club smiling at the two, until they realized, Haru left them to carry in all the bags.

~time skip~

Haru would rather not have any roommates. Not because he wouldn't enjoy sharing one with Rin or Makoto.
It was just the fact that both of their normal personalities are easily overridden with motherly tones and acts when it came to Haru.

And he didn't know if he could handle that, especially getting changed in front of them, no doubt one would see the bruise and force Haru to sit out on the day of nationals, which was in 2 days, no time to heal.
And he wanted to swim.

He had heard over 3/4 of the scouts that we're going to be there were there for him and Rin.
He really didn't want to mess up.

Rin was currently at the front desk grabbing keys to their room, apparently Haru didn't get a choice.
Rin huffed and walked back over to Haru with a set of keys and a small frown on his face.

"Bad news." Rin plopped down on the small little curb that surrounded an indoor tree, next to Haru.
"Hm?" The raven hummed quietly in question as he fumbled with his sweatshirt sleeve.

"Turns out, two swim clubs is 'too much' for the hotel." He sarcastically air quoted and glared at the receptionist, before returning to Haru's cool gaze.

"Go on." Haru ushered for him to continue.
"Well, Iwatobi has to share one room because they're so small." Rin watched for Haru's reaction.
He didn't get one though.

"And?" Haru wasn't in the best mood, his ribs hurt and instead of just concealing the bruise from Makoto or Rin, he had the the whole swim club to hide it from.
Although, they probably couldn't even match Rin in this category, it would be 10x harder with the maroon haired swimmer there, so that's a plus.

"But, on the bright side, I gave Nagisa and Rei my room, so I'll be sharing with you and Makoto!" He was super excited, Haru could tell. So he wasn't going to complain and burst his bubble.

Haru smiled and pecked Rin's cheek before standing up.
"Let's go. What room?" The Raven smirked at Rin's incredibly red face, from a small peck on the cheek.
Wow.

~time skip~

Haru had made it threw the painstakingly slow day without Rin or Makoto seeing the bruise.
They just got back to the hotel room after dinner with Rei and Nagisa.

The raven changed quickly, slipping on grey sweatpants and a loose shirt before walking over to the freezer, hoping for an ice pack.

He dug threw the freezer feverishly for an ice cube or something for his ribs.
The door swung open and them swung closed, he ignored it and fished threw random tubs of ice cream and pees.
If worse comes to worst, he'd just use those, but ice packs are better.

Haru smiled and pulled out a blue ice pack, closed the freezer door with a small slam, and lifted his shirt.

There was a large bruise on his side, about the size of his fist, and was decorated with different shades of blue purple and yellow around the edges.

He placed the cool ice pack on the bruise hoping to relieve some pain, it did only a little.
He made a mental reminder to look for aspirin next.

"Haruka-Senapi? What are you doing?"
