At first, not speaking to Severus drove Lily insane, she felt like she had no one to talk to - she did, though, Lily was constantly surrounded with people who cared about her -, but, with time, she fell into the habit of avoiding him. She'd make sure he was already sitting down when she walked into The Great Hall and whatever classes they had together, she'd make sure she arrived right on time, so there was no time for him to even try to approach her.
Also with time, though, and with a whole summer without having to avoid him, she had stopped thinking about it. She'd go places without dreading running into him, and whenever she did, they'd both pretend they hadn't seen each other.
So one fine October morning, when Lily arrived early to her Defense Against The Dark Arts class, she didn't think twice before plopping down on the floor and opening the book she was currently reading. She'd been the first one to get there, and the whole corridor was empty.
"I've been meaning to talk to you." At first, Lily didn't even recognize his voice, but when she did, Lily frowned, then put her book away and got up.
"Funny thing, I've been meaning to do exactly the opposite." She threw her bag over her shoulder. "Bye, -" She stopped herself and turned around to leave, but an ice cold hand took hold of her wrist.
"Lily, wait."
"You lost all your 'Lily, wait' power the minute you started hanging out with Mulciber." She yanked her arm free and Severus flinched visibly.
"Your class is here, why would you leave? That's counter productive."
"So is this conversation. It's killing my brain cells. You kill my brain cells. Bye." She turned around once more, and was, yet again, stopped by a hand on her arm.
"How many times do I have to say I'm sorry?" He pulled her towards him.
"None. Because you can't say that to someone who isn't speaking to you. Leave or I will."
"Lily, please." She stepped back against the wall. "Please." Severus sounded so desperate, almost too desperate, Lily almost gave in, she looked into his eyes and all she wanted to do was hug him like she'd done so many times before. He must have seen that on her face. "I love you Lily, I- I need you." He stepped closer to her and she pushed herself back against the wall.
"You can't say that. Not after what you said to me. You don't love me, you've probably never even liked me that much."
Severus shook his head fiercely. "No, no, that's not true. I do love you, Lily, more than you know, I-"
"Don't touch me." He'd held his hand up to cup her cheek, but Lily turned her head away. "Don't you dare touch me, Snape." She spat out after swallowing the knot on her throat. He dropped his hand to the side. "You're disgusting. You're friends with those, those," She struggled to not let out a bad word, "Those asses, even knowing what they do and who they support." He stumbled back only from her words. "No, you don't get to say I'm sorry. You don't get to speak to me. You don't get to look at me or even think of me. Forget I exist. I know I have forgotten you do." Snape looked like he'd been slapped, but Lily was so mad she didn't care. "Leave." She pushed his shoulder with the tips of her fingers and he did. He turned around and strode of without looking back.
I know I said in the last one that there wouldn't be a lot of not James/Lily scenes, but this had to happen, it builds up, I promise!
