Lily had been dreading that moment since she'd learnt James Potter was the Head Boy. She'd even considered skipping the meeting, but had decided against it. She'd been given the honor of being Head Girl. She couldn't disappoint Dumbledore. Even if it had been him who chose James as her partner.
She'd woken up unnecessarily early, so that she could go down and have breakfast alone. Well, alone wasn't really her goal, Lily wouldn't have minded having her friends with her, no, her definition of alone was: without James.
She sat at the almost empty Great Hall, filled only with some very nervous first years, whose faces she barely even recognized from the night before, and a couple older students trying to set their sleep scheduled right.
No one she knew well enough sat at the Gryffindor table, so the Head Girl found an empty chunk of the table and munched on some toast, so lost in thought that she didn't notice someone sitting next to her.
"Somehow, I knew you'd be early." Lily jumped and dropped the piece of toast she'd been eating.
"Bloody hell, Potter, you scared me." She turned to look at him. Of course James would be there. When did her wish of being without him ever get granted, anyway?
"Sorry, I thought you'd seen me." He said sheepishly. If she hadn't known better, Lily would think he was actually sorry. "I need to talk to you." He said as he poured himself some juice.
"Talk."
"It's about today's meeting." He stopped, but she didn't react. "You've been doing this for two years now, and I honestly have no idea what in the bloody hell I'm supposed to do," James reached out to grab a piece of toast, "so I just wanted to ask if it'd be okay with you if I stood back a little for a couple meetings, just as long as I'm getting to know this whole Prefect slash Head Boy thing." James adjusted his glasses on his nose and looked at Lily, who was also looking at him.
She shook her head, "No," Lily cleared her throat, "I mean, it's fine, don't worry." He nodded in appreciation. "Thank you." She said after looking away. James cocked his head to the side.
"For what?"
"Not being an ass for once, and letting me do what I know."
James grinned, "Does this earn me a date?"
Lily couldn't help the smile that crept onto her face, "Keep trying, Potter."
Yes, this story will be mostly Lily/James scenes. Like I said, it's a really short one, and I wrote it to satisfy my need to write Lily/James, so there will be very few parts where Lily and James aren't interacting with each other.
I will apologize for that, even though the way I see it, it's the dream fanfiction!
Definitely let me know your thoughts on this!
