Friday went past quickly, before they knew it, it was already Saturday morning. The girls left to go to Hogsmeade at 9am. "This is so exciting!" Ginny squealed. Hermione was smiling to herself. She couldn't wait to show Draco the dress she would pick. She knew the dress would be perfect. She thought about her wedding and then Draco. Then the thought of Draco lead to his family. His father was dead and she didn't know what happened to his mother. His mother. A bulb lit up in her head!
'Dear Merlin! I was supposed to meet Narcissa with Draco! How will I tell the girls?!' She thought. Her mind was debating on staying with her friends or going back to Hogwarts to get Draco. She didn't want Draco to get in trouble for her not showing up so she had to make the right choice. She would run back to the castle to get Draco. But how would she tell the girls?
As if on cue, Luna said "Are you okay, Hermione? You're being quiet today." Her voice is so calming and welcoming.
'This is it! I can tell them now!' She knew that this was the perfect time to go back to the castle. "I've just remembered I have to meet Mrs M- Ms Black today at Hogsmeade! I'm so sorry but I have to go! I don't want to give her a bad first impression of me! I'm so sorry that i have to leave!" At this point they stopped walking. She had an apologetic look on her face.
"Oh.. It's okay," Pansy said. The girls nodded in agreement. "We could always go in a few days." She tried to make Hermione feel better.
"How about this, today we ALL get dresses and in a few days we can all go again but to get shoes and accessories." Said Ginny.
"Or we could all meet up later? I could meet with you after I meet Ms Black." Asked Hermione. She didn't know when she could meet them. They spent a few more minutes discussing about what they could do.
"So that's it settled then, we'll all meet at 3 pm at the Three Broomsticks." Luna said, the others nodded.
"I'm still really sorry about having to make you all wait! I'll make it up to each one of you! Promise!" Hermione felt like she was going to cry. She hated cancelling on her friends last minute.
"Mione, it's fine! We don't mind! You're doing the right thing. We'll see you later Hermione. Don't worry about it." said Ginny.
"Thank you all so much! This means a lot to me. You guys are the best friends anyone could ask for." Before they separated, Hermione gave all of them a hug and then started to run back to the castle. By the time she got there it was already 10 am. She went into her common room and shouted for Draco. She found him sleeping, his hair was messed up.
"Draco! Wake up!" She shouted as she pulled his duvet away from him. She heard him groan. "We're meeting your mother today!" His eyes opened so suddenly. He looked at the clock beside him and saw that it was nearly quarter past 10. He only had around 15 minutes to get ready before they had to leave. He shot up, grabbed some clothes and ran into the bathroom. 10 minutes later he came out looking fresh and clean.
"I thought you and the others were going to look for dresses today?" He gave her a questioning look when he was putting his shoes on.
"I did but then I remembered that I had something else planned. So I'm going to meet them a 3 pm."
"Oh. Let's get going." Draco said as he got up. They both left the castle and took a carriage to Hogsmeade. They only had to walk for 5 minutes before they were at the Three Broomsticks. She looked at the time. It was only 5 minutes to 11. They were early. "can you get a table adn I'll get the drinks?" He asked.
"Sure, can you get me butterbeer?" Draco nodded. "Thanks." She headed off to look for a free table so they could sit. There was a free table beside the window. It looked like it was the only free 4-seater table around. She sat down and waited. A minute or two later, Draco came and brought three drinks. He put one drink across from Hermione, one in front and one beside. They sat in silence as they drank their drinks.
"Don't be worried." Draco said to Hermione. He could tell she was worried because she started to tap her fingers on the table.
"What?! I'm not worried!" Her voice went high pitched. It was easy to tell that she was nervous.
"She doesn't care about blood status. It was always my dad. You've got nothing to worry about." He tried to assure her. A second later, a grey/black haired woman walked in. She had a nude coloured trench coat on. She looked around and found them. She made her way to their table. Draco stood up and gave her a hug. "Mother! How are you? It's been a while."
"I'm fine, Draco. And you?" She smiled and sat down.
"I'm fine too, Mother. this is-" Draco began but his mother interrupted him.
"-Hermione Granger." Narcissa looked at a shy Hermione with a big smile plastered on her face. "It's nice to meet you properly." She held out her hand to shake. Hermione shook her hand and started to feel even more nervous. Her thoughts kept trailing back to Bellatrix. She was put back into Azkaban, she would be getting the Dementor's kiss in a month or two. She had been in hiding after the war. "Do you know when you will have the wedding?" Narcissa looked at them, not knowing what to expect. She still thought that they both hated each others guts.
"We haven't decided yet. I think we were planning on having it on New Years Eve so we could go into the New Year as a married couple." Said Draco, he saw Hermione nod In the corner of his eye.
"That's lovely! Hermione, I want to get to know you more."
"I would like to get to know you too. What would you like to know about me?" Asked Hermione. 'Maybe she ins't as bad as her sister.' She thought to herself. The next 20 minutes were spent with Draco sitting in silence as the women chatted. He never thought they would have this much in common. Whenever he tried to join the conversation he was swatted away. The two women in his life were starting to warm up to each other. He knew Narcissa always wanted a daughter, he never thought that she wanted one quite badly.
"I have to go to the loo. Excuse me." Draco said and left to go the bathroom.
"Before he comes back, I want to give you something." Narcissa reached into her pocket and pulled out a small cubed box.
"Ms Black, that really isn't necessary." Hermione tried to change her mind.
"You may call me Narcissa. Its something I would have given my daughter if i ever had one. It was given to me by my mother when I was engaged to Lucius. You're going to be my daughter in law, the closest to a daughter I will have. It's a Black family heirloom. Here, try it on." She passed her the box and watched anxiously as she opened it.
"Oh my. It's beautiful! Please, Ms B- Narcissa, I can't take this, this belongs to your family." She tried to give it back but Narcissa insisted. A minute later she reluctantly put the ring on. It was a diamond ring with a large green emerald in the middle.
"It looks wonderful on you!" Narcissa's smile grew bigger. Draco came back and heard Hermione constantly thanking his mother. The rest of their time was spent talking and planning the wedding. It was finally time to go.
"Well, I must go now. It was lovely meeting you, Hermione. I do hope that we can do this again. She smiled. "Oh and before I forget, this is a little present from my family to you." She handed her a small, rectangular, red box. Hermione opened it and her eyes widened. Draco knew what it was and gave her the famous Malfoy smirk.
"Do you like it?" He asked.
"Of course I do! But I can't take it, honestly."
"Hermione, please! You are going to be a Malfoy soon, spend as much as you want on it. The money never runs out." Narcissa gave each of them a hug before leaving. Hermione stood there with her mouth open. She couldn't believe herself. She had just been given a credit card that was connected to the Malfoy family vault.
"You heard my mother, spend as much as you want." Draco was still smirking. "I'll see you later, your friends are coming this way." Draco gave her a kiss before leaving the Three Broomsticks.
