Aubrey's P.O.V
I grabbed David's arm and slowly we walked into his house. "Dude! Come on we were waiting for you," one of his band members yelled.
"Come on David!" I guessed this was Riley since she's the only girl in the band.
"Hey guys! This is Aubrey," David said as he lead me into the kitchen.
"Hey I'm Brayden," Brayden smiled at me then grabbed an apple from the fruit basket that laid on the counter.
"Come on David," Riley rolled her eyes and jumped off the bar stool where she had been sitting. I took a step back so I was half behind David. David grabbed my hand.
"Hey...what's your name..." the other boy who I guessed was Isaac mumbled before following Riley. Then, Brayden followed them.
"M-maybe I should leave David," I mumbled.
"No!" he cried "No...they just don't know you yet they don't know who you are."
"Okay," I nodded softly and David lead me down a hallway. The hallway lead to a door which opened to a garage. But it wasn't just a garage. It was a band room.
Brayden sat at the huge drum set in the corner. Isaac hooked up his electric guitar and Riley sat at a keyboard in the opposite corner by the door. The hard concrete floor was covered by a huge fuzzy black rug and the walls were covered with band posters. There were bean bags against one of the far walls and David motioned me to go sit there.
"Okay guys what's first?" David asked his band members as he pulled guitar stamp over him.
I quickly sat down on a red bean bag and pulled out my phone. I decided I might well pretend to be doing something.
"We should warm up first," Riley suggested pulling out a notebook from her backpack. "Have you heard the song I Know What You Did Last Summer by Shawn Mendes?"
"Yeah, everyone has. You can't sing the girl part it's not in your range," Isaac commented.
"Aubrey can sing it," David said smiling at me. I looked up from my phone and nodded slowly.
"Come on then and do it," Brayden said handing me a mic.
I slowly got up took the mic. David nodded at me and counted off ,"one-two-three."
We both began to sing as the rest of the band joined us:
"Ah-ah, he-hey
Ah-ah, ah-ah
Ah-ah, he-hey
Ah-ah, ah-ah."Then I started the girl's part and prayed my voice worked:
"He knows
Dirty secrets that I keep
Does he know it's killing me?
He knows, he knows
D-d-does he know
Another's hand has touched my skin
I won't tell him where I've been
He knows, he knows, he knows."Then David took the lead and I was glad because I had less of a chance of messing up:
"It's tearing me apart
She's slipping away
Am I just hanging on to all the words she used to say?
The pictures on her phone
She's not coming home (I'm not coming home)
Coming home, coming home."Then we both spilled out the chorus:
"I know what you did last summer (ah-ah)
Just lied to me, "there's no other" (he-ey)
I know what you did last summer
Tell me where you've been
I know what you did last summer (ah-ah)
Look me in the eyes, my lover (he-ey)
I know what you did last summer
Tell me where you've beenI know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know (ah-ah)
(He-ey)
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know (ah-ah, ah-ah)
I didn't mean it, no, I didn't mean it, mean it, no
(Ah-ah, he-ey)
Can't seem to let you go, can't seem to hold you close
I know."I breathed in deeply and David smiled at me before he started the next verse:
"When she looks me in the eyes
They don't seem as bright
No more, no more
I know
That she loved me at one time
Would I promise her that night
Cross my heart and hope to die."We both sang the chorus strongly:
"It's tearing me apart (it's tearing me apart)
She's slipping away (I'm slipping away)
Am I just hanging on to all the words she used to say?
The pictures on her phone
She's not coming home (I'm not coming home)
Oh na, na, na, yeahI know what you did last summer (ah-ah)
Just lied to me, "there's no other" (he-ey)
I know what you did last summer
Tell me where you've been
I know what you did last summer (ah-ah)
Look me in the eyes, my lover (he-ey)
I know what you did last summer
Tell me where you've been."The song ended and all of the band members stared at me. I felt like crawling into a hole and disappearing. But then Brayden started to clap, so did Isaac and David. I smiled shyly.
"Wow Aubrey you're amazing," Brayden said smiling.
"T-thanks," I shuttered. David wrapped his arm around me.
"Yeah you have to sing with us at our gig this weekend," Isaac grinned.
"Um...no. She's not part of our band and she stutters. Who knows what she will do on stage," Riley pointed out.
"On stage? On stage she will be amazing!" Brayden cried.
"Guys come on it's her choice," David said.
They all stared at me and I wanted to run but I didn't. Mostly, I wanted to prove Riley wrong. "I-I'll d-do i-it," I cursed my shutter.
"Great!" Isaac cheered fist bumming the air.
"David sing your new song," Riley yawned.
"Okay," he began to strum. I slowly walked back to the bean bag chair but David stopped me and smiled. "You know this song," he whispered smiling.
Then he started to sing:
"I wonder if you see me too
I'm standing at the side of the road waiting for you
Please come home please come home to me
Cause I'm waiting here singing for you."I smiled at him. It was the song that I found. I still had that copy of it. It was in my nightstand. I had forgotten all about it, till now. David nodded at me to sing the next part. The real question is how did he know I knew this song?
But I sang the next verse anyway:
"I saw you at the back of the room on the fourth of May
A hundred years ago
Please come home please come home to me
Cause I'm here still seeing you."Then we sang the next part together:
"And I will never stop waiting
Stop seeing you
And I could never forget all the time
I spent for you
So please oh please."Then David sang the last part:
"Please come home please come home to me
Cause I think I'm in love with you".Author's note:
