Dear Prudence

I woke up the next morning to the sound of my baby sister crying. I walked downstairs rubbing my eyes, and into her room. I picked her up and walked into the kitchen, where there was a note on the fridge.

"Ashley,

The family went out for breakfast, and then were heading out for a while. Your sister just went to sleep so you dont have to worry about her for long. I left 40 dollars on your dresser just incase you want food or anything. We might not be back until tonight

Love, Mom"

I walked into the living room and fed Beth with the bottle i had made and when she went back to sleep, I carried her upstairs to my room. She was 10 months so it was ok for me to let her sleep on my bed, and I was right next to her. I picked up my phone expecting lots of missed calls and text, but I only had one. It was a text from Jake. He had sent me a link to a video. I felt hesitant about opening it because he had only sent the link. No emoji, no smiley face, no caption saying how much he loved whatever the video was. Just the link. I grabbed my headphones, and opened up the link. It was a song. "Dear Prudence", by The Beatles. My eyes widened as the song started playing. It was my favorite one of their songs. How did he know, I never even told him I like The Beatles.

"The sun is up

The sky is blue

Its beautiful

And so are you"

The lyrics hit me and suddenly I was crying hysterically. I tried covering my mouth so that i wouldn't wake my sister, but I was still too loud. The song continued, and the beautiful ending made me scream. Suddenly someone was holding me. I looked up, but my eyes were so filled with tears that i couldn't make out who it was, and i couldn't bring myself to wipe away the tears. Finally I wiped my face, and looked to my side, and it was Zach. I jumped up and turned to my sister who was being rocked by Amanda. "H... How did you guys, um, how did you get in here", I cried. "We had come to check up on you, and your front door was open, and then we heard you scream, and well....", Zach said. "Oh, well I'm fine! You don't have to stay", I said. "Ash, is this about last night? Cause if it is, i want you to know im-" "No!! I dont want any apologies", I yelled, cutting him off. "Can you guys please just go." I then shifted my attention to Amanda, who was laying a now sleeping Beth back on my bed. "Ill call you later", I said to her. They both got up and walked out the door and down the steps. I don't know how, but I had managed to press play on the video, and my favorite part was playing again. I turned off my phone and laid down next to my sister. I slowly fell asleep with my arm safely around her.

"2 tickets to Toronto please", I said to the lady behind the counter. I still couldn't believe that my mom was letting me and my little brother go to Toronto to see Jake. Even after the whole thing with the party. I payed for the tickets and walked with my brother to the security checking station. We went through security, then headed straight to the plane. "Why are we doing this again?", Josh asked. "Because, I need to know something", I replied. As we got on the plane, and pushed in my earplugs, put my pillow behind my head, and fell off to sleep. Before i knew it, i felt the wheels of the plane hitiing the ground. "Wow, were here already", I said to Josh. "Yeah, we've in New York. You've been sleep for like 6 hours", he said. When the plane stopped we stood up, grabbed our carry-on and walked to the door. We walked into the airport, and looked around at all the shops and stores that were there. "How long before the next flight?", Josh asked. "Only an hour." We walked around and got drinks from a Starbucks that was near our next gate. After about 45 minutes of watching Netflix, the announcer called that our next flight was ready and we could board. "WooHoo", Josh yelled, as we boarded the next plane. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to go to sleep again. I seriously hated planes, and everything plane related. I had only heard about the LaGuardia Airport in New York once, but what I had heard wasn't that great. My old friend Jasmine had told me that when the plane takes off, It drives fast on a long runway, and then, after enjoying a nice "You're now leaving New York" sign the runway ends, and theres nothing but water, but the plane pulls up into the air before the runway ends. It was the scariest thing I had ever heard. Josh could tell I was scared because he grabbed my hand and we locked fingers, mine squeezing his more than I thought was possible, but he ignored it. Soon I was asleep.

"We are now making our decent into Toronto", the pilot said. The words woke me up, and I looked to the left to find that Josh was gone. I looked around frantically and wondered where he could be. I looked over at that person in the aisle across from us and tapped her. "Hey have you seen that boy I was with, he's about 5'6, skinny, short black hair", I asked. "I think he went to the bathroom, but since were descending, the flight attendants probably sat him down with them.", she replied. She had calmed me down a bit, but I was still worried. When the plane stopped, Josh came running back to our seats. "Where were you!", I yelled. People began to stare after the first yell. "Aw man, it was great Ash. First I was just going to the bathroom, but they were both full so the flight attendant let me go to the pilots bathroom, and then the pilot called her in there so she brung me with her, and then we talked, and he showed me a couple of things, and then he let me turn off the autopilot, and then I had to leave cause we were going down but it was sooo cool. I laughed at his excitement and put my hand on his back as we walked off the plane.

When we reached the hotel, I quickly threw my suitcase on my bed, an picked out the best outfit i could find. Well no, maybe not the best. I picked out a pair of black jean shorts, and a white button down. I am seriously obsessed with button down shirts. I pulled my hair out and laid it on my shoulders, and went over to my brother and brushed his hair the way that I liked it, even though he hated when i did that. We walked downstairs and I asked the guy if he knew where they were filming Jake's movie. He said that he only knew two neighborhoods where they film movies. We thanked him and left.

We were lucky enough to choose the right neighborhood first. There were about 10 - 16 wheeled trucks just sitting around on the street. We walked down the street, and I noticed that all of the houses were empty. They must've just been unsold prop houses for the movie. "Hey Ashley look", Josh yelled, pointing to a sign on a truck. It was a list of all the different actors and their trailers. I searched and searched until I found Jake's name. My face lit up with excitement as I dragged my finger across. Trailer 7B. I walked up to a man and asked "Do you know where trailer 7B is?" He pointed to the right and said "2 blocks that way." We thanked him, and walked down the two blocks until I saw it. I instantly became super nervous, my hands started to tremble, and my knees got weak. Josh grabbed my hand, and together we walked up to the trailer door, and i knocked. "Im Coming", I heard him yell. All of the talking over the phone could not compare to hearing his voice in person. He opened the door, and dropped his soda. "Oh my gosh Ashley!", he yelled. "Jake!" I wrapped my arms around him, but to my surprise his hands stayed in the air. I let go and looked at his sad, cold eyes. "What are you doing here", he asked. His face didn't have a hint of happiness in it. I felt sadness overcoming me, but I fought it with a big fake smile. "Jake, I um. I know a lot has been going on, but I just had to tell you that I love you. I couldn't stand being away from you any longer. My smile disappeared after the final sentence. His expression hadn't changed at all. "Jakey. Who's at the door", a girl asked. Just then a girl walked up to door in a robe that had the initials JS on them. "Oh, hi", she said. She had Jakes towel around her wet hair too. It was the same towel that Jake had around his head when we first met. We stood in silence for what seemed like forever. Jake had hung his head down, and was staring at his wiggling toes. The girl had been staring at me and Josh with a big smile on her face. I was staring at Jake, wondering what was going on. Why was he acting like this to me. He should've been happy. He should've been happier than me. I stared at his hair. I always loved it when it was messy. It made him look cuter. Just as I was beginning to think good things about Jake, the girl decided to break the silence, and introduce herself.
