(A/N: Just making a few changes: For starters, I'm changing the scene where Ray and Cassie meet from last chapter. They never meet.)
Author's POV:
Standing in front of her mirror, Cassie stared at herself, running her hands down her dress smoothing out any creases or bumps present. A simple pink dress with a sweetheart neckline that stopped right before her knees. Dresses weren't really her thing; the last time she probably wore a dress was a couple years ago. Any dress she ever owned was lost somewhere in the depths of her closet. Tonight she fished a random one out hoping to fit tonight's occasion.
Tonight was the night they finally got to meet Aunt Sharon's Fiancée.
They had plans to go out to dinner, at one of the fanciest Italian restaurants in town; Luciano's. Not only was jeans and sweatshirt a horrible way to meet someone for the first time, but it also didn't fit the strict dress code for Luciano's. So this dress was her only option.
She closed her eyes and thought about what tonight had in store; Two hours stuck at a restaurant with a mother who wasn't talking to her, a cousin who hated her, and a boyfriend that didn't belong to her. She was expected to sit there and be happy, and granted she was happy for her Aunt and she was happy to finally meet this man that has made her so cheerful. But the tension around her family had been at an all time high, she wasn't sure if she could handle two hours of being surrounded by people who treated her like shit . But tonight was a special night for Aunt Sharon, so for tonight, she was gonna put everything behind her. She would plaster on that fake smile she wore almost everyday and get through the night. All she had to do was last two hours.
"You'll be fine" She reminded herself. She stepped away from her mirror, grabbed her purse, her keys and her jacket, just in case the weather took a sudden turn. She sprayed perfume on herself and exited her room, and down the stairs to join the rest of her family.
When she reached the bottom, no one acknowledged her and although she expected it, a wave of regret hit her but it was quickly washed away. Cassie wasn't gonna quit in the first two seconds, she was doing this for Aunt Sharon.
Kenneth stood there smiling and laughing with Jasmine, those two barely able to keep their hands off of each other. It was like a sharp stab to the heart, wasn't it mere days ago when Kenneth was confessing how much he liked her? Or maybe it was just her imagination. Her Mother on the other hand was lost on a phone call that sounded to be with the nursing staff back at the hospital. Typical of her to be off from work, but still be on the job but she guesses that's what happens when you're head of the nursing department. She hung up two minutes later, looked up at Cassie, then without saying another word looked back down at her phone. Another stab.
Aunt Sharon appeared out from the corner looking absolutely breath-taking in an olive green body con dress that perfectly outlined her figure. Her hair, jet-black and perfectly straightened and her make-up looked as if Beyonce's make-up artist did it. She looked amazing.
"Sharon you look absolutely beautiful" Cassidy's Mother began. Her little sister was no longer little. Here they were getting ready to meet her future husband. Where has the time gone?
"Mom you look amazing" Jasmine smiled looking at her Mother
"Thank you. Thank you." Aunt Sharon twirled around, giving the full 360 look. "Alright so, Christopher just texted me and said he'll be there in ten minutes. Are we all ready to go?"
A quick glance around at everyone in the room said that they were ready to go. So they all piled into Cassidy's Mother's car, and drove down to Luciano's which was not too far from where they lived. The car ride was awkward and quiet and Cassie spent most of her time staring at the cars and peoples they passed by. It was 6 o'clock on a breezy October night
