The Lost Species {OLD!}

Part 4-Connections

Thunder landed at the hotel. He went to his room, and laid Glacier down on the bed. "What are you doing?"
"Wait here." He flew out of an open window, and Glacier watched. Thunder landed on a storm cloud, and stomped on it. Instead of striking lightning down, it went up into Thunder and charged him. His mane levitated in the wind, and he went back inside. "What was that?"
"A power charge. It allows me to use my powers for just a moment." He put both his hooves on her ribcage, and closed his eyes. The gash slowly healed itself, her gem sealed up its crack, and her wing healed itself. "How did you do that? I thought only an ice powered crystophonyx had healing properties!"
"Lightning does, well, sort of. Water is said to, but there's never been a water crystophonyx in existence."
"Thank you."
"It also fixed your gem." She looked down. "That was supposed to take months to regenerate. I appreciate the help." She nuzzled his cheek, and he wrapped a wing around her. Nearby, an unknown individual was watching them with binoculars in a bush. "The only ice crystophonyx in existence flirting with a lightning crystophonyx?" He laughed. "Oh, this is going to be good." They finished hugging and pulled away. "I love you."
"I love you too."
"So, what should we do now?"
"I don't know. I hope the others are alright, and that the sun comes up today."
"Twilight and her friends should be alright." They walked outside, and saw that Twilight and her friends had returned, along with Celestia and an unfamiliar blue alicorn. Glacier ran over to Celestia and hugged her. "You're back! What happened? And who is that?"
"I heard that you confronted Nightmare Moon and stalled her so that she couldn't do any more damage than she had already done. Is this true?"
"Yes."
"Very well then. I appreciate the help, but you did not have to throw yourself into danger for me."
"I do. You've always been there for me and helped me since I was a filly. You were like my mother, and my only friend. Other ponies feared me."
"Thank you. This is Princess Luna, my sister. She used to be Nightmare Moon, but she has changed. I trust that you can make her feel welcome here?"
"I won't let you down!" She saluted. "Thank you, my right-hoof mare. Come. It is time we returned to Canterlot." Glacier looked at Twilight, and hugged her. "I will visit you soon."
"Thank you. As will I." She let go, and looked at Rainbow Dash. "We'll meet again, Rainbow Dash!"
"Bye! Good luck!" She ran, and took off with Thunder and the royal chariot. During the flight, she flew next to Luna. "Hello, princess." She jumped. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you."
"Thou are forgiven, Glacier."
"So I'm guessing Celestia already introduced me?"
"Indeed. We are happy to make your acquaintance, and to learn more about a new species." She smiled, and flew back behind next to Thunder. He looked at her, she blushed, then they both looked somewhere else. They didn't really know what to say to each other. Celestia giggled. "I see that you two have built a relationship during my brief absence."
"What? We-" They both said at the same time. "We are-"
"Good friends." Thunder interrupted. Glacier looked down at the chariot's large shadow, but she saw something move under it. "Glacier? What are you looking at?"
"What? Oh, nothing. Just thought I saw something." Thunder knew that something was up, but he just couldn't quite put his hoof on it. He dismissed the thought. "I can't believe they bought it!" The unknown pony thought. "I can't believe I hitched a ride under Celestia's royal chariot! Those guards must be very dense. Now, I shall get my revenge." He moved closer to the front of the chariot. "Good thing I made these magnetizers. This could've gotten messy." Glacier saw the shadow again, but now it was under the chariot. "Am I going mad?" She muttered to herself. "Glacier, you're staring again." Thunder said, breaking her train of thought. "You must be too, of you noticed."
"What? Why would I-" He blushed hard, returned to his guard formality, and looked away, causing the royal sisters to laugh. "You are too funny, Glacier. Stop harassing him." Celestia joked. "He's the one staring at my face. Do you have anything to admit, Thunder?"
"What?! No!" The three laughed harder. "Yeah, sure. Laugh. Time to initiate Phase 1 of my plan." The pony said to himself. He pulled his hoof off the chariot and pressed a button on it. It sent out some sort of sound wave. When it passed Glacier, her flying became unstable and she lost a bit of altitude. "Glacier, what happened?"
"I don't know...my wings just ceased to flap. It was probably nothing." He looked concerned. "Glacier, it isn't nothing. I'm worried about you." She blushed. "It was just like a wing stutter."
"Alright..." But he hadn't really given up. He was persistent, and he was going to find out what that was, no matter what. They landed at the castle, and Thunder went to his position in front of Celestia's room. "Thunder, may we talk for a moment?"
"Of course, princess." She signaled for the other guards to go elsewhere, for this was a private conversation. They obeyed. "Thunder, do you love Glacier?"
"I...I, well, in a way, I do. I care for her deeply."
"I want the best for her. She lost her parents a few years ago, and I was all she had. I have new priorities now, and I need you to be there for her. Do you accept this task?"
"Yes, your Highness!"
"Good. Your new post is outside of Luna's room. Consider this a promotion."
"Thank you, princess."
"Thunder..."
"Yes?"
"Please...take care of her." He saluted. "I will." He went to his new post, and peeked through the slightly ajar door. Glacier was standing guard near the door, while Luna looked around the new place. "This place is wonderful! I cannot believe that Celestia has done this for me!" She looked at Glacier. "Can you show me your powers? What can you do?"
"Many things, princess. Do you want to see anything in particular?"
"Can you change the weather?"
"I can."
"Come, there is a yard you could do it in." She followed Luna, and Thunder tagged along. When they went outside, Luna sat and watched. With one strong, swift, and deep breath, snow clouds appeared. For the rest of the afternoon, Glacier did tricks for her amusement. It got to the point that Thunder couldn't even watch. "That will be enough, Glacier. Thank you." Luna then raised the moon, and the stars looked extra special tonight. "Wow! So you make the stars and raise the moon?"
"Yes. Every night."
"I've never seen a more beautiful night in my life. I wanted to be an astronomer when I was a filly, but those dreams...changed." She frowned, then gave a halfhearted smile. "You mean to tell us that thou has an interest for thy night?"
"Are you kidding? I love nighttime. My parents couldn't get me to sleep at night because I loved looking at the moon." She frowned slightly when she mentioned her parents. "Glacier, how did your dreams change?"
"When I was little, I realized that I had this sort of energy coursing through my veins. I knew that I had to find out what it was. When I found out that I was a crystophonyx, I was slightly startled. I read some books, and found out what I could do. One night, my parents and I were in a taxi carriage going to the Summer Sun Celebration. I had my dress on and everything. Then, a gust of wind sent the carriage careening near the side of the mountain road. It broke the fence, and I was so startled that I accidentally shot ice out of my hooves. It moved the carriage that last inch it needed to fall off the road, and I flew out the window. My parents, however, didn't make it. I ran, not looking back. Then I bumped into Celestia. She took me in, and then I learned how to use my powers correctly. She gave me the duty of creating winter for Equestria every year."
"Oh my. How sad! One of my children of the night should not experience this fate."
"It's alright. Come on. Maybe we should get some sleep." They walked in and Thunder looked at Glacier, heartbroken. This mare was stronger than he thought. They all returned to their rooms, and went to sleep.
Dream
"Glacier! We have to leave!" Snowflake, Glacier's mother said. "Coming, mom!" The filly finished putting on her dress and ran outside. "Ready!"
"Jeez, Glacier! You took so long that horseless carriages were created!" Crimson Haze, her father said.
"Very funny." Glacier watched from a distance at this flashback. They got in the taxi. "Mom! Will we be there soon?"
"Yes, sweetie."
"How about we play a game while we wait, hmm?" Crimson suggested. "Sure!" Glacier realized something; that the voice had come from her little voice. She had become her past self. "I spy with my little-AHH!" The sleigh rocked, and almost fell off the road. The ice shot out of her hooves, and the carriage fell. The gorge practically swallowed her under, and she flew for her life with her little wings. She finally reached the cliff, and then she ran. She didn't have the strength or the courage to look back. She bumped into the last pony she expected to see: Princess Celestia. "P-p-p-princess! I'm so sorry, I-"
"Hush, child. What are you doing alone at this hour?"
"The carriage...my parents, they...it-"
"What happened?" She sighed. "The carriage fell off the road. It's all my fault." Celestia gasped. "I must raise the sun. Please stay out here. I'll be back shortly." The princess went to her ceremonial platform. Glacier's bitterness and heartache built up in her, and she sobbed. "Why did I have to go through this again? Why?" The present Glacier said. She tilted her head back, and screamed at the stars.
--End of Dream--
She woke up with a jolt, sweating. Her fatigued mind decided to go see the only pony that cared. She galloped down the hallway and to the guards' living quarters. Glacier frantically knocked on Thunder's door. She heard a thud, and frantic hoofsteps. He quickly opened the door. "Glacier! What are-" She buried her head in his chest and cried. He wrapped his wing around her. "What happened?"
"I had a nightmare. It was about what I told Luna."
"Come in." They sat on the bed. "I'm so sorry to wake you."
"It's fine."
"It was so...terrifying. To see that happen again..."
"I know how you feel."
"How?"
"When I accidentally electrocuted my father, he disowned me. I decided to shut out my inner self and never to use my powers again. Then when I met you, I got some sort of energy...an inspiration to try again."
"I'm so sorry..."
"It's alright. I just don't have much of a relationship with my parents." He put his armor on. "Come on. I have to work the night shift today. Before I start, I could show you the royal garden."
"I'd like that." They walked to the garden, through some vines and flowers, and into a secret area. They say down on a bench. "It's so beautiful..." Thunder picked a rose and put it in her mane. She blushed and smiled, then went forward and kissed him. When they let go, Thunder was shocked. "Glacier, what-" She put her hoof on his mouth. "No words. I love you, so much. You give me the energy to live my life and be happy. You are my true love. Will you please be my very special somepony?" He kissed her. "Of course."
