'Please, just shut up. Your rambling again. Go to sleep.' I whisper to myself. I stare at the ceiling and blink almost constantly. But I'm not at all tired. Rolling over, I look at the alarm clock on my wooden night stand. The red boxed numbers read '2:14' and I sit up on one elbow; my long blonde hair falls across my face and I blow it to the side with the side of my lip. I reach over and grab my Edgar Allen Poe book I have to read for English class. The slip over paper I was passing notes with holds my page to 588, a quote inserted between two paragraphs.
"I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity."
I read it over about 6 times before I dropped the book on the floor. Great. It's face down and the pages are crimped. I flop on my back and drag my hand over my face. I rip the comforter off my legs and swing them around. The lime green slippers the the foot of my bed aren't worth getting. Picking up the book, I notice a slowly flashing light in a small crevice in the wall. My dog Sophie scratched it open when we first got her. But to, what looks like to be a video camera was ever put there. Maybe it was a secret 'home insurance' camera my parents put in.
I thought it was silly my parents even got the insurance. Our town is so small, Pendleton Oregon. It's in the mountains and nobody even knows my house exists. It's on a long skinny road that dissolved from the map a long time ago. But it's been in our family for almost ever. But it's not old. My parents got it fixed. My dad works for my mom, and my mom is the owner of Diamanté Jewelers. They were on a business trip to Europe. Im stuck with my older brother, Axel. He's 19. 3 years older than me. He was either playing some gun video game on his Xbox, or asleep. I hoped for asleep.
I wasn't going to fall asleep anytime soon. I hopped out of bed and slipped into my navy converse sneakers. I took quiet steps from my bed to my bedroom door. I opened it just a crack and peeked to the end of the hallway. Axel's lights were off and no flashing lights were playing. He was asleep. I threw my head over my shoulder at the crack in the wall, no red light was blinking. Odd... But I turned myself around and closed the door anyway. Quickly, I went down the stairs and ran around back. I could hear insects chirping and the still sound of the night. My white bike was glistening in the moon light and made a small metal sound when I grabbed it from the rack, I hopped on it and rode off onto my long drive way. The rode was just yards away when I took a detour off the drive way.
A small dirt bike trail that led to my boyfriend Sean Deboisie's house. I wouldn't wake him. 20 yards passed the turn was pure woods. Tall trees with dead leaves, and the ground was caked with yellow grass. Every once in a while, an owl would hoot; or a wolf would howl in the background. It's mostly quiet, and I assume I'm alone. But I am right? Stop worrying. You've been on this trail a thousand times. When a crash of brittle grass sounds fairly close to me. My head rips around but nothing is there but darkness. My heart is pounding through my chest and white breath puffs from my lungs. I wait for a moment, than bolt. The only thing on m mind is 'get out of there.' More crashes tumble through the trees closer and closer and twigs snap. Someone is following me, chasing me. I'm scared out of my mind when my tire is shot flat. I can't go anywhere and my coat is stuck on my seat. I'm breathing fast and heavy when a towel covers my mouth and a deep voice says "Shut up and cooperate." My eye sight is spotty and I try to scream but to no avail. Then I black out.
