Matthew, or know as Matt by his friends, sat on the patio as he watched the sun set on the horizon. There was a warm feeling in the air. He sighed. The school year had just ended so he had not much to do. 'Wisconsin's not as bad as I thought...' he thought. He stood up and stuffed his hands in his pockets and walked down the few steps. The grass was taller than his sandals so he felt it rub against his feet. All of a sudden there was a skidding sound right in front of him.

"HEY, MATT!"

It was his friend Jacob. They had graduated 8th grade together and sat next to each other during the graduation. He was pretty much his only friend besides Alex, but he was just going into 8th grade. Jacob jumped off his bike and ran up to him. They did the handshake they had made up by slapping each other on the back and doing a chest bump but Matt was bigger, so he knocked Jacob down. "Oops, sorry. What's up Jacob?"

He brushed off some dust on his shorts and stood back up. "Eh, not much. Wanted to see what you were up to." Matt snorted at looked around at the empty farm fields. He pretty much lived out in the middle of nowhere. Jacob was close enough to live within a quarter mile of him.

'Thank god for that...' "Well, As you can see, not much."

He smiled a little and Jacob started laughing. "Haha! Good. Now come on! Let's go on a ride!" He ran back to his bike and jumped on. "Hurry up!"

"Alright, alright already!" Matt ran back inside a smile spread across his face and yelled for his mom but then stopped all of a sudden.

"Hey mom! Can I-"

His eyes widened. He saw his mom lying on the floor, face down in a puddle of blood that was formed under her body. He sucked in his breath and tried to speak.

"Wha-... who-... DAD!"

He ran to the living room and saw his dad, his chest was bloody and some of the blood had been soaked into the carpet. 'No, no, no, no NO!' He ran outside and yelled for Jacob.

"JACOB! JACOB! JAC-" He saw his friend, that he had just seen alive less than 5 min. ago, on the floor exactly like his father, bloody with multiple stabs in the chest and blood coming from his mouth.

Matt backed up slowly when he bumped into something. He fell onto the floor and scrambled backwards. A tall figure was standing right above him.

The man started walking slowly towards him and pulled out a knife as blood slowly dripped down it.

"Uh-uh. No. NO." The man didn't say anything. He rose the knife up and Matt yelled.

"MATT! WAKE UP!"

He bolted up in a sweat and saw Jacob standing right next to him. His eyes were wide as he held Matt up by his shoulder.

"Dude! What the hell?! You were screaming bloody murder in the night while you slept." Just then Matt's parents ran into the room.

"Matt! Are you alright?!" his mom said as she ran to his side. Her green eyes had fear written all over them as Matt looked right back at them.

"I don't know what happened, Mrs. R. He just kind of started screaming in his sleep about how someone was dead and how some guy was coming after him to kill him." Matt's mom stroked his hair and made him lie back down on the bed again. After a few seconds she said to Jacob, " I think we should take you home, Jacob. We're gonna check to make sure that everything is alright... Come on. Grab all your stuff and put it in the car. "

Jacob started to get his things together. 'Now I remember... Jacob was sleeping over at my house. Nobody was injured...'

"Idiot!" Matt flew back up again. "Mom, I'm fine. It was just another stupid nightmare." Jacob stopped what he was doing and looked at him.

"Are you sure, Matt?" Matt looked back at him.

"Yeah, I'm sure. Mom, nothing's wrong."

His mom sighed. "Alright, but if it happens again, I want to know." She left the room. Matt had a bunk bed so Jacob just went back under.

"You scared the hell out of me dude." Jacob said as he got in his sleeping bag. Matt chuckled. He ran his fingers threw his orange blond hair. "Sorry." They turned off the lights and went back to bed, but Matt didn't go back to sleep at all that night.
