I sat in the front seat of the van as we drove to Washington. I turned to look at my siblings sadly. We had the few items that had survived the storm with us in the back of the vehicle. I turned facing forward in my seat again, sighing as I blew my hair out of my face. I slouched low in the seat as we continued our very long car ride to Washington. There wasn't going to be another stop for us due to the fact we had just stopped five minutes ago. Seemed like five hours already. I fall asleep in my seat and don't wake up until we arrive at my grandparent's house. I miss staying here when I was little... I look around at the street and other buildings around the house and realize nothing much had changed.
Looking down the street and remember my old friend Lexi used to live down there and wondered if she still did. I half wanted to walk right up to the door and ask if she was home. I didn't have her phone number anymore, so I couldn't ask. I'd have to save that for later. I looked to the front door of their house. It really hadn't changed. My dad and sibling had all already gone inside, so I walked up to the porch and pushed open the door. It smelled like I remembered it did when I was little. I still didn't like the idea of moving to our own house here. I would be happy staying with my Grandma if I could. Or even one of my old friends. I didn't want a new house. But Dad said we had to get a new house. Or even an apartment. We stayed at our grandparent's house for about two weeks, and I still hadn't gone to see if Lexi still lived in the same house. "Dad, I'm going out for a walk!" I yelled as I walked out the door looking down the street to her old house. I sighed and walked up to her door and knocked, as there still wasn't a doorbell. It took a minute, but I finally heard someone opening the door and was relieved when I saw the familiar face of Lexi's mom. "Does Lexi happen to be home this weekend?" I ask in a somewhat shy tone. Her mom says, "No, sorry. She's at her dad's house." I sigh. "Alright, thanks. I'll come back a different day. We're back in town because of the storm and I wanted to see if any of my friends were still around." I smiled and walked off back to the house.((I'm working on this one...))
