I ran for what felt like forever, not entirely sure of where I was going or what I wanted. In the pit of my stomach, I knew I needed something, but I didn't know what it was. My legs felt weak and wobbly as I fell to the ground again, mud splashing on my filthy hands. I stopped there to catch my breath, the only sound was the loud, pulsating noise of my heart. And then, I heard it. A soft, cynical song. It sounded like something you would hear riding the carousel as a child, mixed with the squishing of blood and shrieking screams of children. A light shone through the woods, welcoming me to enter as if it were the gates of heaven. I crawled on the bleached grass, scrambling to get to this magical land.
