Chapter 4
I looked at Seth then Dad. "Why him?"
Seth puts a hand over his heart acting hurt. "Skylar, why not me?" He gawks.
My Dad gives me a dirty look " He's strong and young. He can do so much more than an adult could do on a farm, he keeps everything here neat and organized. I'd like to see you try to do what Seth does." He snaps.
My eyes go wide as my dad walks away without another word. Seth booms with laughter. I hate to say but his laugh was a good laugh, that kind that makes you want to laugh too. But I held myself back. I grunt and slam the door in his face while he's still laughing at me for my Dad snapping at me. I went to start unpacking when I hear a knock at the door. I shrugged it off.
My door knocks again. "What?" I shout to my door. "Can I come in?" Seth pleads. I roll my eyes and open the door. He grins sheepishly then walks past me to sit on my bed.
I keep unpacking, while Seth is watching me. I finally feel uncomfortable. "Is there a reason you're watching me unpack instead of shoveling up cow shit out back?" He raises his eyebrows and shrugs "Nah, Mr.David told me to stay for dinner so I can get to know you guys. He told me about you and the family saying how ya'll are moving in and all." He rubs the back of his neck, showing nervousness. I nod slowly.
"How did my dad meet you?" I stopped unpacking and sat at the opposite side of the bed from him. His eyes turned instantly darker than before, making a shade of dark brown. What the hell?
He looked away from my eyes "My dad used to be best friends with Mr.David when he first moved in."
Seth was a liar. You could tell by how his body stiffened and would never look at me even when I followed his eyes around the room with him. I knew this guy for about 10 minutes and I could tell he couldn't lie if his life depended on it.
"Oh true." I said blankly.
He got up and left without a word.
I mumbled to myself "What a sensitive bitch."
