Chapter 9: When She Remembers

[Mai's FIRST POV!! OMG! BE EXCITED!]

Mai's POV

i smiled to myself as i sat on the branch of the tree outside Sellis' room. i haven't spoken to her in a while because of that dick face Zisthin. He was real, unlike me. He must have been alive once but after he died he became completely "attached" to Sellis and kicked me out of the way. I care about the girl; i really do. after all, she's me. in some sense anyways. shes all alone in the world if she can remember it and; though she doesn't know it, Zisthin is only with her because he's infatuated with her ancestry.Not that she would know that though. She was only two years old when it happened. Or would she know? Did Sellis remember all those horrifying memories, even being an infant? I wasn't sure. I couldn't ask her because of Zisthin. but... lately some woman...Mariana Evans i think, has been crawling all over her. shes making Sellis comfortable around her. poor girl. if this keeps happening... she might remember. the past, i mean. she's forgotten it. Zisthin is not actually in love with her, he just wants to pass to the other side. and he can't do that without knowing what happened to his true love. i know and so does Sellis. but... she only knows unconsciously. the key to her memories does lie on this property. in fact, its behind the locked door down the hall. the key to that door is what Sellis wants more than anything. her work, her everything... she does it all for her memory. and all she has to do to find out is remember what the code to the vault is. its ironic really. the key to her memory is an actual key, and to get she must open a vault. and to open the vault she has to remember part of what she's forgotten.

you should wonder what would happen. well, when she remembers the past, her and I will become one person. me; the half that remembers, and her; the half with all the power.

[i'm sorry. it'll make sense in a chapter or two, promise ;) ]

After we merge, she will surely become what she was always meant to be. the great, amazing girl she really is. Her cousins to. Kyle and Julian are just like her in some sense. enough of that though. my job is basically to keep Sellis safe from her memories. And what does that mean you ask?

Only fate and time can tell.

[Seths POV]

i looked up and smiled at Makiona who was lying underneath me as we cuddled; but something caught my eye from outside the window. Was that... Mai?!? "HOLY FUCK!" I screamed as Mai smiled to herself, clearly in a daze. Mai NEVER SMILES! WTF?!

"AH!" Makiona screamed. "WHAT'S WRONG!?" she asked, pure worry in her eyes. "Uh... nothing i just saw... something." i mumbled, not looking her in the eyes. i don't know how but she manages to make me feel flustered so easily.

"Liar. what did you see?"

"my friend."

"uh... where?"

"outside on the tree branch."

"Where?" she said, looking in the direction i pointed to.

"I don't see anyone."

"Yeah well thars cuz you CAN'T see her."

"you mean... she's a ghost?" she said lowering her eyes sarcasticaly.

"No. She's a fiction of my mind. She's not real."

"Oh. so like and imaginary friend?"

"Yeah kinda, i guess that's one way of putting it."

My face lit up as an idea popped into my head.

"Hey! Wanna meet her?"

"Hmm. Sure why not."

[Makionas POV]

She waved to her imaginary friend and ran to the window and said something in Russian. wow i didn't know she spoke Russian. then she ushered her...him...her...it...him...IT in and closed the window.

"Makiona, i would like you to meet Mai." Asriel grabbed my hand and for a second i thought i was in a trance, for immediately before me appeared a girl with eyes as white as snow and silkly black hair. i gasped and fell backward, surprised at the fact that i could suddenly see her imaginary friend. however on letting go of her hand the girl disappeared. the thought of the fact that grabbing my girlfriends' hand made me see things only se could see usually was a bit overwhelming, but not as surprising as what would be to come of us.

Asriel took my hand again and forced us to introduce ourselves. we spoke for a while until about 4pm when Asriel began to get very agitated about something. No matter how many times i asked her what was wrong, she wouldnt tell me. eventually i decided to have her tell me the next day; monday, before class started. I greeted Mai a goodbye and, still holding Asriels hand, left the house. standing in front of it, i hand to speak with her privately. it was important that Mai girl didn't hear us.

"Asr-" i started, but instead a finger came to my lips, reminding me that we were outside; in public, therefore i was not allowed to call her Asriel.

"Seth," i began again. "I need you to tell me something."

"Yes?"

"Why were you crying yesterday morning?" the memory of it was confusing. it was hard to comfort someone about a situation you didn't understand. I didn't want her to feel like i was forcing her to tell me, but i still felt as if i deserved to know.

"I... have another 'imaginary friend'. hes always with me. he never leaves my side. but when i woke up, he wasn't there and i got scared. that's it."

i felt as if there were more ro the story then that, but i didn't want to push her. it wasn't until about a week later until i learned that her fears only consisted of two things: being alone and something i wouldnt dare speak of here. because as she put it, she couldnt afford fears. maybe if her feara weren't caused by the bitterness that took over her family at such a young age, she wouldn't have grown up the way she did. but there's no changing the fact that no matter how hard i tried she never told me what name was until after we had been together for many years.
