We both chucked our bags at the back. Meg plugged her phone to the stereo system and then checked her bold eye makeup in the rear-view mirror, it had to be razor sharp round its pointy edges and also to ensure that it wasn't brushing off, making her look like a panda. Meg always managed to keep her black eye makeup on point throughout the whole school day, I, on the other hand, when I attempted once her look during a weekend, I ended up looking like a meth-addict.
Meg started off the car and was about to start driving when that very familiar black motorcycle cut us off. Meg was staring hard, and with her eye makeup, damn she looked so intense. I hid myself even deeper in my hood and pushed back in my chair. Aiden did a two-finger salute to us and then roared away. I glanced at Meg whose gaze was tightly following the distancing Aiden.
"Meg, you're drooling," I taunted her and I saw this slight brief glimpse in her eyes, as if she almost believed me for a millisecond. She scoffed in response and made her turn, slowly exiting the parking lot. "Geez Meg, the floor is wet and slippery, oh don't tell me!" I egged her on. No response. "Meg, you shouldn't stare too much, I heard that if you lock eyes with him for more than three seconds, he gets you pregnant!" She smirked this time, she liked that one.
"I'd boot you out of this car but I know you'll just immediately get a ride with him," I couldn't tell if she was joking, "You fucking whore." Okay, she was joking. She even turned to face me, tilted her head and gave me her chill crooked smile, to reassure me that our friendship was not going to be destroyed by a boy.
"I just don't understand M. How do you go from Green Day Billie and pre-Jesus Jared Leto to Aiden? You always liked your prey," she loves it when I call them that, "dark, eccentric and with eyeliner."
"Celebrity crushes are always a bit on the extreme side." She didn't really answer my question.
"I thought you were into that bass-player, Cig." Now he was more to her taste. Punk rock, long hair, tats and piercings, but more importantly he played the bass.
"Oh yeah, Cig, he's having a get-together this weekend, wanna come?" she nonchalantly offered,
"Meg! You are avoiding my point."
"Don't worry Soph, I know when I'm to back out from someone's territory." That comment sort of pinched my heart.
"It's not like that. He just gave me a ride once-,"
"Twice."
"Yes, okay, twice. But on the same day. And that was it. I mean, we haven't said anything to each other for a whole week! That two-fingered salute, that was our most intense interaction this whole time." Aiden is clearly not interested in me that way. He was just being friendly. And to be honest, I don't think I'm interested in him in that sense either. I probably just read too much into stuff and was sort of dumbed by his head-to-toes hotness.
"Who said that salute was for you?" she was smirking, she was playing me all along. But she's right, I was hidden in my hoodie. No way he could tell it was me. Meg noticed my stunned expression of mindblow-ness. "At the hospital. Remember? That's where I bumped onto him a couple of times. He's polite, we chatted up. Well, still chat, sometimes."
"You text?"
"Call mainly. He doesn't have Facebook and also hates texting."
Meg was simply torturing me throughout this conversation, every sentence felt like a stab. It's weird but I will confess it, I was a wee bit jealous. Actually, quite a bit jealous. Aiden treated me as if I had suddenly turned into a ghost whereas with Meg, he was having (possibly long) phonecalls with. I bet Aiden went around saying things like 'I like you. You make me feel at ease' to girls here and there. That scumbag.
I sunk even deeper in my seat. I hated the mood that was engulfing us in the car, it felt very toxic. My phone buzzed, it was Eve, it only read 'Skype tonight. Want to know everything!'. Perfect topic changer. Hopefully mood changer as well.
"Guess what happened to me today. Tin-ee Bree made me take a drug test!"
