"I need a ride." I mumble outside of my apartment on the side of the street, the sun already completely out of the sky leaving the night sky to encapsulate the darkest sense in the world. I loved it.

"Why the hell do you need a ride? Get in your own goddamn car or someone else to haul your princess ass around town, I am going to bed early tonight." B smirks at the end of his sentence, I can hear him. Not to mention the undeniable truth that he really was just going to get laid, C on the other side of the room. I knew exactly how this worked.

"Fine."

"You are doing what tonight? A party?"

"Seems like it. I think it is like an underground kind of thing. VIP only deal or whatever. I'm surprised you didn't know." The street suddenly becomes eerily silent and the line is clear of noise until Baek speaks again.

"I don't go for that shit. All I care about is the money, not any of the add ons. They aren't worth as much."

"Okay well I have to find a ride since apparently getting fucked up is more important to you than my safety." I can tell my sarcasm is not appreciated by the sound of grumbling on the other line.

"If I cared about your safety I wouldn't have sent you out to go on this little mission or whatever. I could care less what happened to you at this point as long as I get the money I paid you back afterwards. You don't finish your deal, I get all the cash back. Easy."

I slowly think back to person B was before all of this happened. He was an amazing student and a great son and brother. He doesn't keep in touch with his family anymore, I mean all they know is that he is studying abroad in the US or something stupid like that. It is kind of sad how this world changes you, how it morphs your brain and how money takes over every thought, power equally just as much a desire.

"Have fun." I hang up abruptly and begin walking as far as I can to the nearest bus stop to at least get across a portion of the city.

The street was already darkened, only the yellow street lamps creating enough to see where you were walking. This side of the city was less full of traffic at this time, only an occasional car passing by at speeds way too fast to even glimpse at who it may be. I could feel the gentle breeze dust across my cheeks and I pulled my jacket closer to my cheeks, wishing I had brought something warmer to cover up in. Snow hadn't covered the country yet and I wondered when the cold days would finally bring the beauty of it.

The smell of cigarettes and smog was in the air as the moon beams beat down on my small, dark frame. I was utterly alone, not knowing when the bus would ever end up coming. I knew if I took my hands from my pockets to look up the bus times on my phone, my fingers would go numb, the air sickeningly dry and frozen. So I began to walk. The train station wasn't too far and it never hurt anyone to be a little fashionably late.

All I could hear was my own footsteps and noises of the city far away, cars zooming through the highways, lights and voices filling the streets. But here, it was quiet. Here, it was even peaceful.

Though as I was admiring the kindness of the quiet street, I heard a noise. My feet came to a stop, to my right, a long alleyway between two old abandoned apartment buildings. The shadows of the brick walls were even darker than the air surrounding me and it brought back the memories of a few days ago. The day I assisted a murder.
