Bringer of Death Special: Generations (Part 2 of 2)

The Omega Cannon streaked toward the nearer of the two stars in the Juno system, a dim red subgiant twice as heavy and three times as wide as Earth's sun. The star was nearing the end of its life; though it had once supported a vibrant ecosystem on Alpha Juno, it had expanded and cooled dramatically. No longer capable of supporting a vibrant ecosystem, the planet had been abandoned dozens of centuries before, though a small outpost had remained until Paragus and Broly showed up.

The red star's companion was a heavy, white-hot neutron star only a few thousand kilometers from its surface. Though far smaller in diameter than a planet, it radiated brilliant blue light, still cooling from its formation many millions of years before. Because it was much heavier than its companion, it didn't seem to move very much at all.

Broly's green blast was picking up speed. Like all energy blasts, it accelerated exponentially as it shot through space. Energy balls started off slow enough to dodge, but sped up over time until they were nearly moving at the speed of light.

Most of the ships in Vegeta's fleet had briefly fired their slipstream engines earlier, retreating to what they felt was a safe distance. Too far from the planet to make out any details, they could only watch the live feed being broadcast from the Bringer of Death, the quality of which had suddenly fallen.

Two familiar soldiers, by the names Thurg and Lug, sat side by side on one of the larger capitol vessels, manning their posts like every other grunt. The more experienced of the two kept his fingers poised above the comm, one headphone on his left ear and the other pulled up so that he could converse with his partner. Clearly, no one had expected Broly to put up such a good fight against their leader. Vegeta's invincibility had been all but legendary as his accolades of destroying the Frost Demons spread throughout the galaxy. Seeing him struggle, or even trying at all, was something they'd never expected, let alone experienced. It was almost surreal.

But in the wake of the past few years, since the Saiyan's takeover of the Empire, a great many soldiers found themselves rooting for their Lord not out of duty, but because unlike Frieza they had actually grown to somewhat like him. Of course, that sentiment was hidden deeply underneath the utmost respect and true fear. Many of them still trembled for their lives simply being in his presence, but they also felt a strange type of security, as if Vegeta was also going to protect them from whatever unknowns the universe had left to offer. And it would be fair to say that both Lug and Thurg were among those who felt this way.

"Come on!" Lug grumbled, reaching up and smacking the monitor on the side. The fuzzy picture, a seemingly empty view of space with the dim planet below, merely became more pixelated.

"Woah, man. Just chill. Lord Vegeta's got this in the bag now," Thurg replied, reaching underneath his armchair into his secret stash of chips. He had suddenly been reminded of his own hunger when he used the phrase 'in the bag'.

"Well sure, I never doubted him," Lug quickly replied, almost defensively. "But, dude. I can't see a stinking thing on these monitors! Why don't we just go back to where we were before? If we don't we're gonna miss the ending of the fight!"

"Commander Oniya's orders, Lug," the more stubby of the two replied. "You saw how the Bringer of Death was nearly hit by Broly's attack earlier. You think I wanna be anywhere near danger like that?!"

Lug gulped, scratching an itch on his side clumsily. "Well, no. But from here, we wouldn't even know if an attack was coming!"

"Trust me, if that happened our sensors would detect it well in advance. And besides, Lord Vegeta won't let anything like that happen."
