Bringer of Death Chapter 97: Loco Parentis, a dragon ball z fanfic | FanFiction
Heroes Saga, Part 2: Loco Parentis
Videl finally arrived home in the wee hours of the morning, landing her plane on the roof and sneaking downstairs. There was still light coming from the gym. It was a surprise; the general public assumed the great prizefighter trained night and day, but she knew her father hadn't trained seriously in years.
"Daddy?" She pushed the door open gingerly. "You still up?"
He was there in his brown training gi, grunting as he hoisted a nine-hundred pound sandbag over his head. The bag spun in midair and he grit his teeth in exertion, fighting to keep it balanced. Finally, when it seemed he could maintain it no longer, he ducked out of the way and spun into a powerful kick that knocked the heavy sack halfway across the room.
The fighter turned and smiled at his daughter before grabbing a towel and folding it around his shoulders. "Just getting in a light workout. Gotta stay in top shape, even when I'm not saving the world!" He scratched his head lazily. "The house is pretty lonely when you're gone, Videl. I was actually waiting up for you."
"That's nice of you! I'm sorry I've been away a lot lately."
Hercule cleared his throat, walking over toward the water cooler. "So...emm...tell me about your trip. How were the slopes?"
Videl wrinkled her nose. "Slopes?"
"Right, the slopes. You said you were skiing."
"Oh, yeah, skiing," the girl answered hastily. "It was all right...I think I caught a cold, though." Trying to act casual, she walked over and picked up the sandbag with a single hand to move it across the room. Her father's eyes widened—he already knew his daughter had surpassed him, but by this much?
He pushed the shock out of his mind. "Listen, Videl...I had hoped you would come clean with me, about where you've really been..."
She froze.
"It seems you aren't quite as responsible as you'd have me believe. I know you weren't skiing, and I know you didn't go hiking or sailing with your friends before, either. You've been lying to me, and it's not the first time."
Videl swallowed, unsure whether she had actually been caught or if he was just trying to trick her into admitting something. "What are you talking about?"
Mr. Satan sighed, walking over to the window. "I'm talking about your plane's transponder broadcasting from the Tsumisumbri Mountains."
"You've been spying on me?!" You have no right to do that!"
"I'm your father, so I do!" he shot back angrily. "You've been sneaking around like this for months, always quick with your excuses, and I've had enough. You're grounded, starting right now!"
The girl clenched her fists. "That's not fair. I've just been training! You of all people should understand that."
"I don't care if you've been off feeding homeless orphans! There will not be any more lying in this house and that's that, understand!?"
"I understand, but—"
"—This isn't a discussion, Videl. For your own good, I'm grounding you indefinitely. You'll be permitted to go to and from school, beyond that you are not to leave this house, do you understand?"
To the girl, it felt like her whole world was crashing down around her. She hated spending time in Satan City; her father's reputation made it impossible for her to go anywhere without people staring. The one thing she enjoyed doing was helping the police. "Come on, Dad! At least let me keep doing my social work!"
