We had no idea where we were, but I guess that's the beauty about adventure.
"Do you even know what city we are in?" Cayden pestered while I parked the car. She hasn't stop shaking her knee or biting her lip, a nervous driven habit that made her vulnerable to anxiety.
I didn't want anything more than to tell her that everything would be okay. That by the time we were done being beyond reckless, we would both discover where we belonged. But the problem was my mind even know to start but heart just told me to drive as far away as possible.
"Nope." I answered, I was nervous no doubt, I have never, not once gone against my parents' word and this was all brand new to me. But I couldn't show her
"Oh." Cayden huffed, sinking further into the durable seat. I wanted to say more, anything to make her feel more excited like I am for this. But the words never flowed out of my mouth.
We slowly let the silence crept between us, creating a barrier that none of us seemed to want to break. It was uncomfortable for me and I suddenly realized I didn't know enough about her.
I knew small details, like her favorite color or her favorite animal. I knew she preferred breakfast over dinner and the smell of vanilla made her feel the most relaxed. However, I didn't know why loved the color yellow and the sight of birds made her
I knew what she was thinking, I could just tell by the way she would fidget once in a while, or the way she constantly keep glancing through the window as if this was all a dream, that we weren't suddenly discarding all we once cherished.
Wisps of light rain gently scattered against the slightly dirty windshield. The car's rusty engine could be heard over the creaky radio times. My thought slowly paced into blank thoughtlessness, thinking about everything and anything.
Bits of first meeting her to last nights bonfire cross my mind. Just holding her at the game made me feel something that was unexplainable. Everything from her hair to her beautiful eyes draws my attention and I can't help but want her's all the time.
She doesn't care if I'm a scholar or the number one athlete. She doesn't care if I'm the best of the best or the worse of the worse. She doesn't judge my every intention, heck she even takes my awful humor and laughs as if my jokes were the funniest things known to man.
With all my being, I just want to discover where my feelings for her could lead to. I may not feel love right now, but I know given time, whatever is between us, could be something worth fighting for.
Thoughts kept trickling through my mind of us, my parents, my
I didn't even realized how much time passed until I felt my stomach grumble.
"Someone hungry there?" She light laughed, a slight flutter jumped through my stomach.
"I guess so." I bit my under lip, trying to repress all the confessions I have been dying to tell her.
"Well that high way sign over there says there's a dinner in the next stop. We can get some food there?" She points her ring figure to a huge green sign. The drops of rain began to speed and I know it would be best to stay off the road for a little and to get some food into my empty stomach.
Using my turn signal, I weave through the lanes to get to the farthest right one which immediately transcend into the exit I want. It only takes a few more stops and turns until I find myself parking into an empty lot.
Once again, my stomach betrays me as a loud rumbling sounds cuts the air. I turn to sheepishly look at Cayden whose mouth is over her hand, covering her laughter.
"Glad to know my hunger is amuses you." I playfully roll my eyes; she lets her playful laugh fill the vacant van.
"I'm sorry." She smiles, unbuckling her seat belt while I take the key out of the ignition.
And then it hits me.
"Uh Cayden?" I ask, patting around for my wallet.
"Yeah Luke?" She stares at me with those big blue eyes that I find my worry melting away with.
"I-I don't think I have my wallet." I admit while I watch her face go white.
"So that means we have been driving without a license?" She panics, "Or that we don't have any money?"
I snap my fingers, "No, we do!" I pull back the glove box to reveal a wad of cash and stuff a few dollars into my pocket.
"It's cash that the boys and I saved up in here case of emergencies for our trip." I explained when she shot me a look of horror as if she though I had the audacity to steal that money.
"It's not much," I continued, "But it will keep us around for a few days." Without waiting to hear her response, I unbuckle my belt and head out the car.
My feet feel slightly sore from the driving and being cramped up in the car all night long, but I shake them off hoping the numbness will soon disappear. I wait until I hear her door close too and then I start walking toward the classic, faded diner.
"Thank you." Cayden mumbles as her small frame ducks under my arm while I hold the door out for her.
"Hi! Welcome to Sals, I'm guessing you want a table for two?" My eyes immediately shoot up once I hear that voice. I was immediately meet with a knowing glint encased in green eyes and red hair.
It was her, the girls who warned me in my dreams.
