In a small town named Fairy, there was a small family of four. A mom, a dad, a little boy, and a little girl. The boy was 12. His name was Logan. He liked to play videogames and color little pictures for his family. The girl was ten. Her name was Lilly. She loved playing with her hair and reading.

This family lived like any other. Mom would cook and clean as the dad would go away to work. Logan and Lilly would go to school, come home and do their homework. Every other Friday the family would get together and play some games.

Although Logan and Lilly were siblings, they didn't seem like it. Logan had dark black hair while Lilly had golden blond hair. Logan had green eyes while Lilly had brown. The only thing that brought them together was the birthmark on their left hand, it was in the shape of a lizard's head.

The day before Logan's thirteenth birthday, his parents had to go pick up their last gift for him while he slept. On their way home, a drunk driver struck their car. By the time help arrived the parents had passed away.

That same night the police men went to their house but no one answered, Lilly and Logan were still sleeping. The police men decided to come back tomorrow and notify the kids and take them to the police station.

Logan wakes up first and runs to his sister's room to wake her up. They then run downstairs to find that their parents weren't home. Logan, trying not to panic, calls his mother's phone from the house phone... no answer. Lilly gets scared and begins to cry. "Don't worry. I'm sure they just went out to get something. We will just have to wait and celebrate when they get home," Logan said as he hugged her. Logan walked into the kitchen and ketch a glimpse of his birthday cake. There wasn't a cake to be found. Lilly walked into her parent's room to get the wrapped presents off the bed but they weren't there. She opened the closet door and found them still on the top shelf. From this moment they both knew that something was wrong.

After waiting about two hours watching cartoons on the couch, someone knocks on the door. Logan and Lilly both walk to the door and ask who is there. "It's the police, please open the door." The voice was a males and it was very strange. "How are we supposed to believe you? You could be some deranged lunatic," Lilly asked curiously. "If you open up the door you will believe me." Logan opens the door just enough to see the police man and his partner standing there, "I'm sorry sir, but I think you have the wrong house. We didn't call you, nor is there any trouble here." The police man smiles," Seems to me that someone has been doing their homework. May I come in and speak with you?" Logan gave him a puzzled look then let him in. The police man told his partner to wait in the car as he walked into the house.

The police man stood in the living room. "I think it would be best if you two sat down for this." Lilly looked down at her feet a bad feeling grew in her heart and she spoke," Our parents are dead aren't they?" The police man gave Lilly a shocked look. Logan looked at her with a straight face," Lilly go to your room and when I say you can come out I'll tell you what's really going on." Lilly opened her mouth to argue but before she could make a sound Logan screamed at her, "NOW!!!" Lilly then ran to her room and slammed her door shut. The police man's eyes where now on Logan," Your sisters assumption was right. Your parents are dead." Logan lowered his head now knowing his worst fears have been confirmed," What am I supposed to do now? If that's what you came here to do then you can leave now." A tear fell down his cheek. The man got on his knees and looked at Logan with his arm on his shoulder, "I can't leave without you two with me." Logan got mad," So what you're telling me is that you're going to take us with you so you can put us in an orphanage?" The man nodded," But you'll have to stay in the police station till we can put you in one." Logan finally looked at the man," How long will that take? What can I do to make this go easy for both of us?" "It should only take three days and it would be a big help if you two packed a suitcase each and got some cloths a maybe two things that are very special to you." Logan nodded and headed up stairs. He knocked on Lilly's door, she slowly opened in and hugged Logan letting him know she had been listening. They both then walked into their rooms and began packing.

Lilly and Logan walked down stairs with three suitcases. Lilly looked at the police man and asked," Do you know what today is?" The police man looked puzzled at her question, "Uh, June 23." Lilly nodded," That's right it's also my brother's birthday. Would you be so kind and help us get his presents from the top shelf of our parents closet?" "I would be happy to."

Lilly and Logan decided not to be any trouble getting into the cop car. They placed their things in the middle seat and got in. As they drove away from their house Lilly and Logan watched it become further and further away. The whole ride to the police station the car was quiet except for the one radio conversation the man was having. Once they arrived the two police men helped Lilly and Logan out of the car. To Logan's surprise, there was a "Happy Birthday" banner hanging up and had three presents sitting on a table just for him. He was happy to know that the people cared but sad knowing he wouldn't be able to celebrate with his parents.

Once the police man put Lilly and Logan in an empty holding cell, Logan decided to count how many presents he got. One present looked like it was smashed. He looked on the side of the box and found an envelope. He took it off the box and read the letter," From Mom and Dad we love you baby boy." Just seeing those words made his eyes water. A woman walking by saw that he was looking at the smashed box and stopped and said," Sorry about the box being smashed we had to carefully take the box out of the back seat of the car." Lilly began to cry and Logan hugged her tight trying to get her to stop before he started.
