Melanie POV
"Hey mom, do you know where dad is?" I smiled at my mom.
"Hey, sweetie. He should be in his office and is everything okay?" She asked concerned.
"Yes, I just wanted to give him the birthday card since I know he doesn't like celebrating his birthday..." I replied, showing my mom the card.
"Oh right, well he should be there," She replied with an unreadable expression.
Once my mom told me where my dad was, I headed over to his office there.
I then knocked on the door of my dad's office and waited for him to respond.
After a moment, hearing a few shuffles and things being moved around, he told me to come in.
"Hey dad, happy birthday," I smiled, brightly at him and returned the smile. For some reason, his smile didn't reach his eyes, but he quickly masked his emotions.
"Hey baby girl, how are you?" He said as I kissed him on the cheeks.
"Good and I ugh brought you this," I replied, handing him a birthday card, "I would have brought more stuff for you but you told me not too."
"Even though I don't like to celebrate my birthday, I really do appreciate your gift even if is just a card so thank you," He smiled.
"You're welcome. Is there anything you would like to do today with my mom and I like maybe watch a movie?"
"Ugh yeah, I'll join you two after shortly," He replied and I nodded my head. I then left him to his work, seeing that his desk was filled with paperwork.
I was glad that my dad was happy to receive my gift, but even so, I couldn't shake off this feeling of something not being okay with either of my parents.
Since I did not want to ruin my dad special day, I figured it would be best to be positive for the rest of today and just ask tomorrow.
