Chapter 6

As the school year progresses I start to become closer to Mikey and more distant from Jack. I recently signed up for an advanced 3D art class and so far, I've loved it. My life has been so much better with Michael. He makes me smile whenever I see him. I finally dyed my hair blue, which caused Michael to dye his orange. Thank God I didn't dye my hair orange. That would've been a mess. Recently, I've caught Mikey stealing glances from Lily Poller. Lily Poller is your typical mean girl. She's popular and gets all the guys. Everyone loves her, yet everyone hates her. Mikey and I were sitting at lunch when I caught him looking at her again.

"Michael. That's like the third time I've seen you looking at Lily Poller. It's getting kind of creepy." I say leaning forward.

"I'm sorry she's just, I don't know, perfect." He says 'gaga' over Ms. Poller.

"Mikey she may be physically perfect but she's a brat." I say snapping him out of his fantasyland.

"C'mon she seems sweet." He says shaking his head smiling.

"Yea. But she can be sour, like lemonade." I say sitting back analyzing my analogy.

"Have you even talked to her before?" He scoffs.

My temper was through the roof. I never told Michael how rude Lily was to me in middle school. She threatened me, made fun of me because I didn't like the same things as her, got everyone to hate me, and tried to take my friends away.

"God Michael, you're so stupid. You don't know anything. If you want to fall in love with her, be my guest. But don't you dare come crawling to me when she breaks your heart." I get up and throw my trash away. I still had about 20 minutes left before lunch so I went to the library. I pulled out my ear buds and let the music take me away. How could I just tell someone every single thing about me when I don't even know them. Maybe I'm the stupid one. Jeez anxiety and depression can get the best of you. I decided to skip the rest of the day and go home. I didn't want to talk to anyone. I didn't want to associate with anyone. I want to sleep. That's all.

I woke up to the sound of sirens and commotion downstairs. I rushed down the stairs and saw a bunch of strange people in uniforms pushing my uncle out on a gurney.

"Vince what's wrong?" I pulled my hair up into a ponytail,"Where's your mom? What happened?"

"He just fell, Christine, and wouldn't wake up. I think my mom went with him. I'm scared Christine." He looked at me with tears eyes. This kid really needs my help. I walk over to him and he hugs me. This is the first time we've ever had contact, besides hitting each other.

"It's going to be ok Vinny. Just calm down." I say rubbing his head.

I walk outside and Vince follows. I see the ambulance leave and my stomach drops. Then it returns when I see Michael walking down the street. I run up to him and embrace him. It feels so good to be in his strong arms again. We break apart and I get a list of questions asked.

"Chris, are you ok? What happened? Are you hurt?" He threw those questions at me while brushing my hair out of my face.

"Mikey I'm fine. Don't worry. It's something with my uncle." I said grabbing his hand and leading him to my house.

"I came over to apologize about earlier, but then I freaked out when there were sirens and lights." He said opening the front door.

"Michael you don't need to apologize, I need to. So, I'm sorry." I say scoffing.

"Your forgiven, but I'm sorry too." He said with a slight smile.

We sat down on the couch and I turned on elf. I got back up to go make kettle corn and get some Gatorade.

I spent the rest of the night with Mikey on the couch, watching a bunch of Christmas movies. Even though it's only November. A sudden realization comes to my mind. Mikey and I don't know each other's birthdays.

"Hey Mikey." I whisper. He's half asleep.

"Michael."

"Hmm?" He moans and turns his head towards me, still, his eyes were closed.

"Mikey." I whine and shake him a bit.

"What babe?" I stop in my tracks. He just called me babe. I'm not a babe. I'm surely not his babe.

"Chris, what?" He opens his eyes and asks in a raspy voice.

"When's your birthday?" I ask moving the fringe out of his eyes.

"November 20th. Is that the only reason you woke me up?" He asks worn out.

"Yea I'm sowwy." I say pouting my lip out.

"It's fine. I think I need to get home anyway, it's almost midnight." He said standing up, gathering his stuff off of the table. I walk him to the door and give him a hug.

"Thank you Michael, for everything you've done for me in the past few months. I'm being honest, this is the happiest I've been in a while." I say leaning against the door frame.

"Chris, I should be thanking you. You're the best thing in this town. Even better than Lily Poller. I'm glad I moved here. I met the nicest, most adorable, girl ever." He said raising his eyebrows.

"Great. Now you're making me blush Mikey. Get home safe." I said getting inside the house and heading upstairs to go to sleep.
