"Its 90 degrees on January 19th in Shreveport, Louisiana. A beautiful day, and---" Harold finally turned off the radio.
It's been three weeks since Harold joined the Caddo Parish Correctional Facility. Today was Sunday. It was 9:00 and of course, Harold was going to the church. The only thing he was into was religion. "Come with me, it's more than talking Mike." I never went to church so I declined.
The clock read 9:59 PM. I was laying in my bed and I was tired. Harold was up listening to his radio. "We just received word of another outbreak in Louisiana. We are not sure of the disease or what causes it, we just know it's spread out in all of Louisiana and some parts of East Texas-" I got up from my bed and sat in the desk chair to listen. "If someone you know starts bleeding from the mouth and coughing, please contact your local police department. There is no cure yet but I'm sure that Congress will look into it soon enough. 103,000 out of 4.8 million people in Louisiana have died so far and thousands more affected." Harold looked at me in shock. "That's crazy, you think it might affect us? You think it's contagious?" He asked. "I don't know, let's just hope not."
The next morning, men in yellow suits with weird masks came into our room. "What the fuck?" Harold screamed. They stripped us naked completely, dragging us out forcefully into the cafeteria. "What's going on?" I was too tired to fight back. In the cafeteria were tents set up with other prisoners lined up. There were men in the military with guns guarding every door. "Those prisoners are naked too," whispered Harold, "what do you think is going on?" Before I could say anything, I was stabbed with a needle in the ass hard. I felt light-headed and fainted instantly.
I woke up on the cold jail floor, slowly I got up. It took a while to realize where I was and that I had a terrible headache. I looked around and everything was empty. No one was around. "Hello?" I was still naked and felt extremely cold. "Anyone there?" I yelled. I started looking around for clothes. I walked into the holding area and there was a pair of dirty pants. I picked them up and put them on.
I walked on as I noticed everything was messy. There were papers on the floor and pencils scattered everywhere.
I walked to the next corridor and saw the jail door was wide open. I walked to it, holding my pants up. I walked through the door. With bare feet, I stepped on something, piercing my foot. I looked down to see a bullet casing. Someone has shot in here. "Hello?" I heard a faint bang in the room in front of me. I walked slowly to it.
As I eased on to it, I saw a door open with the lights off. The banging continued as I got closer. I was afraid to say anything. I peeped through the window of the door, but it was too dark to see anything. I heard the bang again. I opened the door slowly, trying not to make any noise. I walked in and the light from the hallway shined toward an officer leaning on the wall coughing. "Sir what's going on?" As soon as I said the last word, the officer's head turned slowly. He looked me in the face. His face was torn apart. His lips were gone. His eyes were completely white. There were thick black veins in his head. He had blood dripping from his mouth. "Holy shit!" The officer yelled and started following me as a ran into the hallway. I ran into another hallway, trying to find an exit. What the hell is going on? This is crazy. I'm going to die.
I looked behind me, the officer was limping as if he was learning how to run. I ran as fast as I could, passing puddles of blood. I ran passed a soldier ripping into the flesh of another soldier. I ignored it even though I was sick to my stomach. I heard the officer growling louder, getting closer. I made a left turn to the lobby. There were dozens of those things. "No, damnit!" They were blocking the exit. They all looked differently. Some had an arm missing, some had guts hanging out of their stomach. In a matter of a second, they took off running toward me, all yelling. Their screams sounded like a train, coming to end my life.
I heard another door shut, i turned around. The officer was still running to me, this time faster. The only thing I could do was get past him and circle around the complex and make it back to the lobby.
I charged after the officer ready to do whatever I must do.With the herd of freaks behind me, I had no time. The officer jumped to attack me, I had a rush of adrenaline and slid under him, dodging his attack. I looked back and he landed head first. The herd quickly ran over him, trampling him, not looking back. I had enough time to run and hide somewhere.
I ran quicker, loosing the herd slowly, but they would gain in time. I passed by a conference room, a janitor room, then a wash room. I saw a sign pointing to another corridor. It read "Visitation." I've never been there before, but it was my last resort. I ran inside the dark room. A slight ray of daylight shined through a window. I ducked under a table, hoping those things would pass.
The loud screams got louder and louder, until they started passing the door. They screamed louder. Until they all passed.
After a minute passed, it was time to run. I got ready and counted. 1--- 2---- before I got up, one of the freaks ran in the room. I'm fucked.
It was too dark to look to see what the thing looked like, but that was a good thing. It started making a clicking noise. Circling the room, one time after the other. Its taking too much time. I would never make it out. I have to kill this thing. Just then, a scream came from somewhere in the jail. It echoed loudly. It was human, a man. It sounded like Harold. The clicker started clicking louder. It turned around and ran out the way the herd ran. It was my time. Should I save Harold? It was too much of a risk. I took off running to the lobby. It was clear, I opened the door to freedom.
