It's been like 2 days since Ryan just threw that chicks number at me and stormed out. We freaking won the championship basketball game Friday and he acts like we lost 0-50 or something...

I wouldn't be mad if a hot girl gave me their number...

My only option is to talk to Ryan's closest friend on the team, Tyler.

*bell rings*

I grab my books, shove them in my bag and head downstairs for lunch.

"Hey yo, Tyler, slow down."  I yell as he comes down the stairs.

"Damn bro, you missed such a good win Friday! Where where you?!" I ask him.

"I'm sorry, but you know how my parents are with me and soccer. Soccer comes before basketball." He says disappointed.

"I get it, how was the soccer game?" I ask. Trying not to burst out about Ryan immediately.

"We lost, like every game, every season, every year. I don't know why you even asked." He laughed as we sat at our lunch table.

"Sorry, but hey what's been wrong with Ryan?" I ask.

"Not sure, which is odd. It's something that's been bothering him, that's all I know." He said.

"What could bother him so bad that he hates everything and denies the hottest girl in this school?" I ask.

"Well, when I came out as gay, I thought everyone would hate me. So I sectioned off, I thought that the stereotypes were just going to start flying around and I wouldn't be able to play basketball or soccer, but it's was mostly the stress and here I am, still single AF but here I am." Tyler says.

Tyler came out as gay to all of us back in 8th grade when we all became friends and made our so called clique.

I mean, I met Jackson, Blake and Chandler in 1st grade, and I met Ryan in 6th and Liam and Tyler in 7th, but we all grew as friends in 8th grade.

"Do you know if Ryan's had family issues lately?" I ask quietly.

"A little but nothing big. 'Just the normal stuff ' he always says." Tyler explains.

As we sit quietly for what seemed like way too long for me, Tyler finally broke the silence. Thank god he did because it was fixing to eat me alive the possibilities of what's wrong with Ryan.

"Well, I'll do my best to figure it out." Tyler says.

"Thanks man." I say.

"No problem Nate." He replies.

The rest of lunch is spent talking about how he kicked a guy in the shin and didn't get flagged, and my winning pass to Liam's winning shot.

(After school)

I see Blake run up to me and jump on me as I'm talking to Jackson about the 'Ryan incident'.

"Yo, did you hear about Chandler's party?! He's throwing one on Friday, y'all need to come." Blake tells us.

"I never heard anything ab-

*buzz buzz*

I look down at my phone.

-Chan the Man- YO BRO IM HAVING A PARTY FRIDAY AND YOU'RE COMING.-

"and there it is." I say looking back up at Blake.

Finally Jackson receives the same text like a minute after me.

"Hey Blake, was Ryan invited?

"Yeah, I'll check and see if Chandler got an answer from him." Blake said.

"Ok man, thanks. If you hear anything have Chandler or you just text me and let me know." I say.

"Sure thing." He says.

And out of the corner of my eye, I see a girl look at me... I turn and look at her to see who it is..

Oh, it's just some girl from my Geometry class.

Long brown hair, blue eyes, glasses, freckles, she's really smart, super shy, not at all popular. She's one of those people that if I needed to, she'd let me copy off of her.

As soon as she noticed me look at her, she looked away and instantly turned red...

Aww, she's so shy. I feel for her.
