"How could you like Vampire Diaries over Pretty Little Liars?" Riley gaped at me, before shoving a banana flavored salt water taffy in her mouth. She turned her head at me, as she chewed, waiting for an answer.
We were sitting at a little wooden picnic bench on the edge of the beach. Our shifts ended a little over an hour ago, but we had nothing better to do, so we were sitting, and eating candy.
Luke was sitting with us for a while, but he said his friends were waiting for him. Personally, I think it was because he didn't want to hear us debate actors, movies, or anything of that nature.
"The guys are hotter." I said in a duh tone, rolling my eyes playfully at her. She pushed my shoulder, after she swallowed her candy.
I laughed, before shoving her back. This is why I loved hanging out with Riley. We were so close, and we were always joking around.
I un-wrapped a piece of taffy, stuffing it into my mouth. We were sitting in silence for a second, only hearing the crash of the waves, and the seagulls chirping, when I was cut off by Riley. Her high pitched squeal, seemed to echo across the empty beach.
She ran over to Jack, and he pulled her close to his body, wrapping his arms around her back. Usually Riley isn't very good at relationships, but her and Jack were the cutest thing ever.
They met through Luke, and flirted for over a year, until he made a move. I was happy for her, but I miss my best friend.
I awkwardly sat at the table, kicking around the sand, suddenly feeling like a third wheel. I got up from the bench, throwing the half eaten candies in my bag, before slipping it across my body.
I mouthed to Riley, have fun, and she gave me a sad smile. I just kept walking up the sandy hill, deciding to get some work done.
My keys dangled in between my fingers, as I walked the couple final steps to the beat up door. I pushed my hair to the side, trying to get a better view of the lock on the door.
I began trying each key, forgetting which of the similar keys was the right match. I tugged on the doorknob, hoping it would allow me in, but the key wasn't the right match.
As I tried the next key, the door was flown open, revealing a giggling Bailey. I trampled inside, almost knocking over my sister in the process.
I caught my balance, but it was too late. I had already dropped my keys, and my messenger bag. I groaned in annoyance as I bent down, trying to gather all of the lost items.
"Ooh candy." Bailey screeched, basically diving on the floor, collecting as much taffy as she possibly could. I rolled my eyes at her, but she ignored me, jumping on the counter.
I grabbed all of my things, before putting them behind the counter. Bailey munched on the candy, as she swung her feet back and forth.
"A little birdie told me something went down at the beach this morning." Bailey said rather annoyingly, with a proud smile on her face.
She always knew all of the town's gossip, surprising me to no end. Whether is that our neighbor got a new dog, or the women down the street is cheating on her new boyfriend.
"Who told you that." I called over my shoulder as I walked towards the back of the store, the new shipment in my hands. I placed the box on the floor, it landing with a clink.
I sat down, cross legged, next to it, facing the racks of candy bars. I ripped open the masking tape, holding the sides of the box down, making it flinch open.
"I don't know." Bailey said, stifling a giggle. She shrugged helplessly, as she slipped another candy past her plump, pink lips.
She chewed obnoxiously, trying to get me to spill any details from this mornings, drama. I hummed louder than her chewing, trying to focus on two things- stacking candy bars, and my humming- nothing else.
