Chapter 13

Luke's pov
I get a group text from Annie asking if we wanted to come over at 5:30. Of course I respond with a yes. I haven't told anyone but I have a huge crush on Annie. She hasn't dated anyone since like 3rd grade so I think I have a chance at asking her out tonight. I'm super nervous but I manage to pull myself together. I look at the time and see that it's already 5:00. I get up and change into a t-shirt and khakis. I sit and watch tv until 5:25. I get in my car and drive to Brennan's house, that's where we were told to meet. I arrive and my palms are sweating like crazy. I see a bunch of cars here already, geez how many people are here? I should've looked on the group message. I walk up to the front door and ring the doorbell. The door opens to reveal Annie. She smiles and greets me with a hug. "Hey Luke! I'm so glad you could make it!" she says excitedly. I hug her back and walk inside. "You look nice" I say to her, trying not to sound awkward. "Thanks, so do you!" she replies. Phew. I thought she was going to get suspicious. Once everyone arrives, we all get together. "So what do you want to do?" Annie asks. "Truth or dare!" Justin yells. Of course, Justin is so immature. "Isn't that a little kid game...?" Rachel asks. "So what? It sounds like fun to me!" Alex says, high fiving Justin. "Truth or dare it is!" Annie announces. We all sit in a circle. I sit across from Annie, Brennan is next to her, then Justin, Rachel, Alex, Abby, Caleb, Katie, and Sydney. "I'll go first!" Alex says. "Brennan!" he says. "Truth or dare?" "Um, dare!" Brennan replies. "I dare you to.... hold hands with Annie for 10 minutes" Alex says. "Uh, okay" Brennan says, taking Annie's hand. Ugh, thanks Alex. "I'll go next!" Justin announces, looking at me. He's the only one who knows I like Annie. Oh great. "LUKE!" he screams. "Truth or dare?" he smirks. "Uh, dare" I mumble. "I DARE you to kiss Annie on the cheek" Justin smirks. Crap.
Annie's pov
"I DARE you to kiss Annie on the cheek" Justin says to Luke. Oh no, Brennan gets jealous easily, what should I do. Luke sits up and leans over to me, pecking my cheek. As soon as his lips come in contact with my cheek, Brennan squeezes my hand. I rub my thumb over his knuckles assuringly. This seems to calm him down because his grip loosens. Luke sits back and his face is red. I wonder why. Wait, does Luke like me? The game continues for a few more minutes and Luke won't stop staring at me. So far, nothing exciting has really happened, Abby licked Alex's shoe, ew, Justin chased a few squirrels outback, and Sydney acted like a chicken for 2 minutes. Katie noticed Luke staring at me and could tell that Brennan and I were uncomfortable. I looked at her pleadingly and she slightly nodded. Her and Caleb are the only ones who know about Brennan and I. "Annie truth or dare?" Katie says, interrupting Rachel's turn. "Dare" I respond, almost immediately. "Um, 7 minutes in heaven with...." she pauses so it doesn't seem suspicious. "Brennan" she finishes. "Um, okay" I pretend to be nervous. We walk upstairs into my room. I look back and Luke looks hurt. Oops. As soon as we're in my room with the door closed, Brennan kissed me passionately. I kiss back before pulling away. "You know she wasn't serious right?" I laugh. "I know, but it's just another excuse to kiss you" he smirks. "Shut up" I giggle, pushing him onto the bed. I lay down next to him. I place my head in his lap and he starts to play with my hair. "I hate that Luke has been all over you tonight" Brennan says, sighing. "He hasn't been all over me, you're over exaggerating" I laugh. "But don't worry, you're my one and only" He leans down and pecks my lips. All of a sudden, the door opens. Crap, I forgot to lock it. Luke appears in the doorway. "Uh, I was just going to check on you guys. You seem to be doing fine" he says, looking down. "Yeah, we're fine. Thanks" Brennan says, half smiling. "Okay, you have 4 minutes left, uh. Yeah" he says, closing the door, going back downstairs. "We can never get time alone anymore" Brennan sighs, running his fingers through his hair. My hand goes up to his face and I caress his cheek with my thumb. "It's okay, we will. I'll make sure of it" I say. He smiles, causing me to smile. "What do you want to do for the last 3 minutes?" I ask him. He smirks. "Well we could do what we're supposed to be doing..." he trails off. "You're crazy" I say, standing up. "You love it" he says, standing as well. "Never said I didn't" I reply, pulling him in close until our noses are touching. "Knew it" he says before connecting our lips. We stay like this for what seems like forever, my hands around his neck and his hands on my waist. There is a knock on the door and we jump apart. It's Luke again. "Uh-" he starts but is cut off by Brennan. "Times up, we know" Brennan laughs. "Yeah" Luke laughs with him. We walk downstairs to see that the game is over. Brennan and I are sitting down for 2 seconds before someone screams "SPIN THE BOTTLE!" Sounds like Justin, great. I really don't want to play, but I don't really have a choice. I sigh, walking over and sitting with the rest of them. Before we reach the group, I whisper to Brennan, "No matter what happens, none of them mean even close as much as you mean to me. I love you so much, remember that" he nods and smiles. "Same to you princess" he replies. I can tell he's very nervous. We all sit in a circle. "Okay, girls don't kiss girls and guys don't kiss guys. Seem fair?" Alex asks. We all agree and Justin puts the bottle in the middle. "I'll go first!" Abby announces. She spins and it lands on Justin. We all know they like each other so when their kiss lasts for longer than 5 seconds, no one is surprised. "My turn!" Sydney says. She spins and the bottle lands on Alex. Sydney pecks his lips. "Ewwwwwww!" she squeals. I laugh, enjoying her reaction. "Annie! Your turn!" Abby yells. I stop laughing and my heart starts beating rapidly. I hesitantly spin in and I can't contain how nervous I am. So when it lands on Brennan, I'm very relieved. I let out a sigh but no one notices. He leans in and we kiss a little longer than planned. It isn't until Luke clears his throat that we are snapped back into reality. I squeeze my lips together and sit there awkwardly. It's Luke's turn and when he spins it, it lands on me. Oh no. He leans in and as our lips are about to touch I pull back and say, "I can't, I'm sorry" I run out of the room, Luke on my heels. "Annie stop!" he says. We're in the kitchen, not very far from our previous place but no one can see us. "I'm sorry Luke" I say looking down. He doesn't say anything so I look up. Big mistake. As soon as my head rises, his lips connect with mine and of course Brennan comes in at that exact time. Luke has a strong grip on my arms so when I try to pull away, I can't. I yell for Brennan to help me. He comes up and pulls Luke off of me. "STAY AWAY FROM HER!" Brennan yells. Before I can stop him, Brennan's fist connects with Luke's cheek. "Brennan stop!" I yell. He hits Luke 3 times and there's blood everywhere. Luke lays on the ground, unconscious. "Don't come near her again" Brennan says to Luke. "Brennan! Why did you do that?" I start to cry. "He kissed you Annie! What was I supposed to do?" he said, angry with Luke. "Please never let anyone else do that, it felt so wrong with anyone's lips on mine except yours" I cry into his chest. "I'll never let anyone touch you again" he kisses my head. "Dude! What happened?" Caleb said, walking in with Katie behind him. "This idiot decided it would be fun to kiss my girl" Brennan replied, hugging me closer. "So you knocked him unconscious?!" Caleb whisper yelled so everyone in the other room wouldn't hear. "Well what would you have done?" Brennan whisper yelled back. "Good point... Well, we have to get him to the hospital" Caleb said. "Yeah we should" Katie joined in. "What about everyone else in the living room?" I ask. "We can go out the back way" Brennan suggests. "Okay let's go" Caleb said, picking up Luke's legs. Brennan and I get his arms and Katie helps Caleb. We finally get him to the car and drive him to the hospital. "When we get there, hide your faces. We can't risk Liv getting our pictures" Brennan says. "Okay" we all say. "Pull up Luke's hood" I tell Caleb. He pulls it up just as we arrive where we pull up our own hoods. We get out of the car and help Luke into the hospital.
~2 hours later~
The doctor walks into the waiting room and calls our names. We stand up and go into the room where Luke is now awake. Luke avoids my eyes while the doctor is talking. "He'll be fine, just make sure he drinks a lot of water. You're free to go" the doctor says. "Thanks doc" Caleb says, smiling. The doctor walks out and I turn to Luke. "Are you ready to go home?" I ask him. "Sure" he mumbles. "Okay, let's go" I say, helping him up. We all help him to the car and drive home. He walks inside on his own and were greeted with a harmony of "Where were you?!" I sigh. "It doesn't matter. Is everyone sleeping over?" Brennan says. "Sure" "Yeah" "Sounds good" "Yeah I will" Everyone says at the same time. "We'll go set up the beds in the basement" I say. Brennan and I head downstairs.
Brennan's pov
We Luke heard that Annie and I were going downstairs together, he didn't look too happy. Oh well, she's mine. We go downstairs and start setting up the beds. Once they're completely set up, I go over to her and kiss her passionately. I realize how many times we've kissed today, wow. I guess I really love her, yep, last time I checked, she's the most important person in the world to me. I pull away and stare into her eyes. Her eyes are the most beautiful shade of brown I've ever seen. I'm in love with her smile and the way her hair falls onto her face. I'm snapped out of my daydream when Annie literally snaps her fingers I front of my face. "What were you doing?" she asks, laughing. "Admiring your beauty" I smile. She blushes a bright red and looks at the ground. "I'm literally the luckiest person in the world, because I have you" I say, lifting her chin. "I love you more than anything Brennan, thank you for everything" she says, staring into my eyes. We go upstairs to get our stuff for the night and tell everyone that the beds are ready. We all talk, after getting in our pajamas, for along time. By 4:30, everyone is asleep. I'm about to fall asleep as well until I here someone crying. I turn my head to find Annie with her phone out, crying. "What's wrong princess?" I ask, my arms wrapping around her. I see that she's on Instagram, looking through her comments. Her notifications are filled with hate comments, why was she looking at these? "Awe babe, don't look at these, there's no point. Do we need to delete it?" I ask, rubbing her back. All she does is nod, still sobbing. I click delete account and wrap my arms around her and we both fall into a deep sleep.
