After college, they got married. It was the right thing to do since they knew they were going to be together forever. But, a year after, Lukas enlisted in the army after they found out Farkle had cancer and they couldn't afford the treatment. Riley and Maya were more than happy to stay with Farkle while Lukas was away.
Lukas wrote home almost every week. And he always got a reply back.

Tears streamed down Lukas' cheeks, watching the casket as it lowered into the ground. Farkle had died three days before Lukas returned from Afghanistan. Everyone payed their respects before leaving. Once everyone was gone, Lukas sunk to the ground, clutching their wedding photo to his chest, sobbing.
Lukas always thought that they would live a long, healthy life together.
Soon the rain started to pour down onto Lukas, but he didn't care.
"Farkle, why?" He sobbed, sounding utterly broken.
He cried everything out before going home. He grabbed the emergency alcohol out of the cabinet and took a swig straight from the bottle. He hoped to drink away all of the pain he felt.
By the time he went to sleep, there were four empty bottles of whiskey, a dull pain still throbbing in his chest.

The next few weeks were tough. He found a job, it paid great money. He still longed to be able to be held by Farkle. He still longed to feel his lips together in sync with his own.
To feel better in their big apartment alone, he got a black Lab puppy. It was the runt of the litter and he named him Minkus.

Exactly one year later, Lukas pulled the trigger. He killed himself. The pain of Farkle being dead for so long couldn't stop him.
Riley was the one who found Lukas' body, a pool of blood surrounding him. In his grasp was his suicide note and a picture of Farkle.

They were buried together, side by side, underneath an old oak tree. To be together forever.

Lukas never became a veterinarian like he wanted, and Farkle never took over his father's company.
