After I finished with the small mutt me and Kathy took on a few more dogs, cats and a few birds. Just as I was about to close up I quickly remembered and headed into the back to check on some of the patience that needed to stay the night.
"Hello anyone here?" A voice called out,
"One minute!" I yelled back, I wandered out to the front desk only to be taken aback by the one person I never expected to see again.
"Hayden.." I murmured,
"I needed to see you again, it's been to long Mac," He smiled shyly, His short brown hair cut neatly matching his eyes. The man who stood before me could not have been my best friend, He had very little facial hair and I noticed a tattoo peaking out from his collar. Yet he dressed in a simple business suit and carried a pager,
"No, Please don't call me that, Hayden you need to leave," I breathed out, unclenching my fists and clenching them again.
"Dr. did you forget.... i'm so sorry um do you need anything before I head out?" Kathy rushed oblivious to my anger,
"No, Kathy please set up the C.T scan for the border collie in kennel 11, I think i'll stick around a little longer," I ordered trying to hide my frustration with a fake smile, She quickly walked back into the back room before I let my anger out.
"Go now, leave and don't return," I growled,
"Maci.. I.." Hayden stuttered,
"No Hayden! You need to leave right now, I do not want to see you back in my office or at my home.. Please just stay away from me!" I snapped moving my hands as I raised my voice at what I used to call my best friend. He turned away from me his eyes filled with regret, I had crushed his last bit of hope.
"Goodbye," I said emotionless pointing to the door,
"Goodbye Maci," He whispered as he disappeared out the door,
HAYDEN'S POV...
"Goodbye," She said stiffly, her finger pointing to the exit door of her veterinary clinic.
"Goodbye Maci," I whispered as I walked out, She meant the world to me... She always had. I just needed her to see i've changed! I strode off to my expensive silver 2014 MDX and climbed in. Roaring the engine I sped away.. man I hated this town. My catchy ringtone sang through my dress pants pocket dragging me out of my thoughts,
"Hayden Michelle," I said cheerfully into the phone,
"Hi sir, Mr. Hadford here," The voice boomed through the phone,
"Ah yes, what can I do for you sir?" I asked happy to have something to clear my mind. I inhibited a share of the Hadford company when my father passed a few years back, since he was co owner and the Hadford family had no children to pass the company down to it was left all to me.
"I was just seeing how your stay is coming along, I apologize for not being able to meet up with you at the air port but I figured that being your home town you knew your way around," Mr. Hadford said strictly with a hint of question to his tone.
"Yes sir," I smiled,
"Alright well see you soon," He replied and with that he hung up, I put my phone in the dash and continued to drive.
I knew what I had to do...
and Jayce will not stand in my way!
