When I woke up the next morning, General Hux was already gone, which didn't surprise me. I did, however, feel a small bit of disappointment that he wasn't there. I had looked forward to waking up with his arm around my waist, my head laying on his chest....
I sat up quickly and blushed. 'Where did those thoughts come from?' I thought, running a hand through my hair. I couldn't do that anymore, especially if I was going to have to spend another night with him. I should know better than to mistake his kindness for anything for than that.
I sat for a few minutes, clearing my head of any such thoughts or emotions. I knew I wouldn't be able to work if I wasn't focused. Taking a deep breath, I stretched and redressed before heading out to see what I needed to complete today.
My first thought was to check in on Ren, to make sure he was recovering well. I made my way to the medcenter and walked in, finding him sitting up in bed looking agitated.
"It's about time," he snapped. "I want out of these clothes and back in my usual uniform. I'm sick of being stuck in bed all day."
I fought the urge to tell him that he'd only been in there for one night. "Lord Ren, I'm quite sure that your personal clothing was stained and tattered from the fight..."
"I don't care," he said, sliding off the side of the bed and wincing in pain. "Just retrieve them and assist me. That's your only job it seems."
I clenched my teeth and frowned at his comment, but grabbed his clothes like he insisted. I watched him flounder for a bit, seeing him struggle with the complicated outfit making me feel better before I helped him.
He was very indignant about getting my help, though it was to be expected. He could get the majority of it on without my help, but with his wounded side and shoulder, it hurt him to lift his arms. I had to help him with the upper half of his uniform, which meant standing too close for comfort to his chest and face. It was a bit awkward having to assist Ren in putting on clothes. Not just because he was scary, but because he was quite tall and built. I felt tiny compared to him.
I was finally putting the cowl around his neck, having to stand on my toes since he was taller than I was, when the door opened.
"Ren, we're approaching Supreme Lead-" the General began, before looking up at seeing me there. He assessed the situation, looking none too happy that I was standing chest to chest with Kylo Ren. "I see you're already dressed."
I stepped away from him, sensing a bit of hostility in his words, though I couldn't tell who he was directing it towards. Ren, however, seemed to derive pleasure from the snappy attitude.
"Yes, I'm always happy to see you've hired people to do demeaning tasks with no shame," he said, a smirk in his voice but not on his face.
I growled and glanced toward the General, who had his jaw set. I knew he didn't like having his people insulted, even the Stormtroopers.
"I would agree that having to dress you after you were defeated by a newcomer Resistance girl that you wanted to train is a demeaning task," he said with too much kindness in his voice for it to sound genuine. "But I'm sure she felt a good amount of shame in having to do it, or maybe it was pity."
Ren scowled and I flinched without even thinking, seeing as he was clearly angry now. His eyes roamed to mine and he turned his attention to me. He stepped toward me and I backed against a counter without thinking.
"I'm quite sure that wasn't the case," he said, reaching out to touch my face. "I recall you feeling happy to help me, isn't that right? I do remember you thinking that you were one of the few people that got to see me like that..."
I looked to the General who was watching closely, looking angrily at the both of us. "That's not how I meant it," I said.
He stared at me and I could hear his voice in my head. 'I see why you're denying it now,' he said. 'You have feelings for your beloved General...'
I squirmed under his touch, closing my eyes. 'Get out of my head,' I pleaded. 'He doesn't need to know...'
'I bet he'd be delighted to see that his subordinate has a schoolgirl crush on him,' he said. 'Especially since he still doesn't even know your name.'
"That's enough!" the General said, pulling Ren away from me. "If you're well enough to invade her thoughts, then you're well enough to be out on the ship."
He growled, sending another glare at me before storming off. I leaned back on the counter, feeling weak after what just happened. It had only lasted a few seconds, but it still drained me.
"I apologize for Ren," the General said, standing at my side. "He has no boundaries and no self control. You looked like you were in pain."
"I was just scared," I said. "It was strange to hear him in my mind."
"I'll discuss it with him," he said, and I felt worried suddenly at what Ren would tell him. "Can you still work?"
"Yes, sir," I nodded, straightening my posture. I couldn't get so comfortable around him that I forgot my basic training.
"Good, we will be landing on a planet soon," he said. "It probably won't be a pleasant descent, so you might want to hold on tight."
"If you don't mind me asking, General," I said carefully. "What are we stopping for? I thought we were going to the Finalizer."
"Ren and I have business with a man on this planet," he stated. "Ren more so than myself. I imagine that he will stay there for a while."
I couldn't imagine what sort of business they had on a remote planet, but I nodded. "Alright, thank you, sir."
He gave me a small nod, and turned to walk away. I had a quick thought as he left and, before giving it a second thought, I called out to him.
"General, in case Lord Ren asks, I'm ______ ______," I said, giving him my full name. "He seems to like that you don't know it."
He seemed to grin. "Thank you, ______," he said, repeating my name on his lips. He walked out and left me with a fluttery feeling in my chest.A/N: Thanks for reading and following this story guys!
