Rowan POVIt was dusk when we finished training. The cool air swept my short hair back and gently blew against my face. My hands were sore and my clothes were damp with sweat. Dean had been at it nonstop since breakfast. I'd learnt so much over the last few days, it felt as though my head was going to explode.
"Come on then, kid" Dean smiled gesturing to the house. "It's about time we went in."
"Is it okay if I cool off out here for five minutes?" I asked.
"Uh... Yeah, sure" he said. "But as long as its only five minutes."
As Dean went inside I walked over to the impala and sat on the bonnet. Mumbling a quick sorry to Dean, I gazed longingly at the sunset. Deep oranges and reds painted the evening sky. It was so beautiful. Sometimes I wondered if my mother was that beautiful. I never remembered her face, only what she told me about my dad. Even though my memories of her were faint, to me, she had more beauty than the sunset.
Sighing, I hopped off the bonnet, checked it for scratch marks and began to walk to the door. Suddenly, I heard a faint shuffle behind me. I spun around, fists raised, only to see nothing there. I shook my head and hurriedly darted inside. For, its never just your imagination.
As I closed the door Lily stepped in front of me. Her white curls bounced on her shoulders and her army boots clomped on the wooden floor.
"Are you alright?" She asked tilting her head slightly. "Looks like you've just seen a ghost!"
I smiled reassuringly at her. "Yeah. I'm fine. Have you seen my dad?"
"Oh... Yes." She sighed. "He's in the living room on his laptop."
"Thanks" I muttered as I walked away. I didn't like her. She freaked me out.
As I turned the corner into the living room two hushed voices shared a heated conversation. Slowly, I stepped back and hung by the door.
"She's not dangerous anymore!" I heard Dean hiss. "I've been training with her all day and she hasn't gone demon on me once!"
Sam sighed "Yeah, I know. But Cas said-"
"No! Don't care what Cas said. She's staying with us!"
"And I second that, but we need to be careful, Dean" Sam whispered. "As her dad, I need to keep her safe!"
"I know, Sammy" Dean sighed. "She's one of us and we treat her no different. Can't we just show Cas how much she's improved?"
"He won't have any of it. And he said her nightmares are getting worse."
Son of a bitch! How did he find out about that?
"What? How?" Dean replied.
"I don't know." Sam stuttered "I guess they're just getting more vivid. The other night when I dropped my phone I looked up at her and her eyes were black. Black Dean! That's not good."
Without thinking, I touched my palm to my nose. I glanced down at my hand to see a smear of crimson across my skin. A brief moment of panic flushed over me before I bolted into the kitchen. Thankfully, nobody was in there so I grabbed the paper towels and shoved them onto my nose.
I had a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. What did they mean, dangerous? I wasn't dangerous. Okay, maybe I pointed a knife at them but that wasn't that bad.
I inhaled slowly, trying to calm my racing heart. Exhaling, I brought the tissue away from my nose and looked at it there was still shiny red blood everywhere. I tried to focus on the fridge but something else caught my eye. A shadow darted across the window.
My heart jumped to my throat. I stood frozen, eyes fixated onto the window. A cold shiver ran down my spine making all the hairs on my neck stand on end. After what felt like forever, my muscles began to relax and my heart started sinking back to its original spot.
I pulled the tissue away again to see that less blood was spilling out of my nose. Sighing, I slumped into the chair at the table and held my head up. Whatever that thing was, I didn't like it.
