Chapter 27

Aubrey's POV

It's been a week since Hayes's accident. He's still in a coma. I haven't left his side since day one. He's had some small movements and that is huge progress. His heart rate and blood pressure are starting to rise and go back to a normal level so they are expecting him to awake soon.

Cameron and I leave this afternoon to go to Cali to see his family. I wasn't going to go, but Hayes has made tremendous progress over the past three days so I decided I would go. After all I did promise Cam I'd go.

Mom already packed my bags for me since she knows I'm not going to leave the hospital to do it. She had to go back to work last Thursday so she can only come at night. Cameron has been so caring and supportive through all of this. He's been staying with me the whole time so I'm not alone.

Right now it's about 11:30 and Cam just left to go get our stuff from my house and to go get us lunch. Our flight doesn't leave till 3:30 so I have a few more hours left with Hayes.

"Hello Aubrey how are you today?" The nurse asked while checking Hayes's vitals.

"I'm good Brenda how about you?"

This is our everyday routine. I've been here so much that Brenda and I have gotten to know each other. She's really nice and she encourages me to not lose hope. She's one of those positive nurses not the ones that are always negative.

"I'm doing good sweetie. His vitals are all good and his blood pressure is almost normal again which is really good!"

"That's amazing!"

"Yeah it really is! So I hear that today's your last day here for a couple weeks?" She asked

"Yeah Cam and I are flying out to Chino Hills to go visit with his family for about two weeks. I was hesitant about it but since Hayes is getting better I figured I would go and try and enjoy myself. Plus Will is flying in to stay with him." I said directing my head toward Hayes

"Well I'm gonna miss you Aubs." She said while engulfing me in a hug.

"I'll miss you too Brenda, but I'll be back to visit soon I promise."

She soon left and i was now alone in the room with Hayes again. He doesn't look as lifeless as he used to so that makes it easier to look at him.

"Hey baby bro. I'm leaving  later  today with Cam and I'm going to be gone for about two weeks. I'm gonna miss being with you everyday but Will is flying in to come stay with you. Katie got to go home yesterday and she really misses you. The nurses and doctors say that your vitals are getting better and you should wake up soon which is really good news. I really hope you remember us all when you wake up though. I'm not gonna give up hope. I love you Hayes." I said leaning down to kiss his cheek.

Just then my phone started ringing.

"Hey babe" I said

"Hey Aubs. I'm on my way back. What do you want me to get you for lunch." Cam asked me

"Umm let's see. How about Chicken nuggets from Burger King?"

"Sounds good. I'll be back in about ten minutes. Bye love you."

"Love you too" and with that I ended the call.

Burger kings chicken nuggets are like the best things in the world. They are so good.

About ten minutes later Cam walked in with our bag of food in one hand and our luggage in the other. I ran over to him and grabbed some of the bags so I could help him.
