“I actually have no idea. Doesn’t he usually have some rich snobby party to go to where they all drink cocktails and talk about how much money they have?” Sky said and we both burst out in a fit of laughter. Tyler handed us our drinks and we thanked him.
“He probably thinks this cheap beer is not good enough for him” I motioned towards Harry. Sky and I both laughed and for the next fifteen minutes we pretended to be rich snobs, holding up our pinkies and talking in British accents.
“What do you guys have against that guy?” Tyler questioned. Of course he doesn’t know. He went to a different high school then us.
“He’s a rich, snooty jerk. He went to our high school freshman year. He was partners with Riley for Biology and he complained about dissecting the frog and would brag about his rich father the entire time." Sky rambled on. I admired the way Tyler would keep listening through her constant talking.
"So I threw frog guts at his precious cashmere sweater.” I added as we all laughed. I saw Harry looking over here and I pray he doesn’t remember me.
Actually I hope he does remember, so he will know to stay away.
“Oh god.” I heard Sky mumble in my ear. “He’s heading this way.” I glanced over and sure enough Harry was walking up to us. “He is gorgeous. Maybe you should talk to him.” She pushed me in his direction and walked away with Tyler.
“Do I know you?” He asked and it took everything in me not to hit him. I laughed, almost rudely but I didn’t care what he thought of me.
“I threw frog guts on you freshmen year.” I replied trying not throw my beer on his sweater as well. But unlike freshmen year, this one looked good on him. Amazing actually. He definitely grew up since the last time I saw him. His curly hair was cut shorter and his muscles were so much bigger. And his height…. I swear he shot up like a tree.
“Yeah. I remember that.” He laughed lightly but I still couldn’t manage to like somebody who has never worked a day in my life. “You ruined my favorite sweater.” He added as I rolled my eyes.
“It was an ugly sweater.” I countered as he laughed again. Who was this person standing in front of me? I forgot how hot his accent was and his looks. No Riley! He is a jerk. A jerk that has everything handed to him in life. He probably gets women handed to him as well. But not me.
“How about I repay you for having to look at the ugly sweater. Can I get you a drink?” He asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. I held up my cup to show him that I already had one. I wanted to walk away but I didn’t know how to get out. He was looking intently at my face.
“You don’t like me very much. You don’t know me, but you don’t like me” He spoke. God, did he think he knew everything? But he was right. I didn’t like him.
“I know you. You’re a rich kid who never has worked a day in your life but you still complain when things don’t go your way. And those type of kids annoy me” I said as nicely as I could. “have a nice night” I added as I walked away to find Sky and Tyler. I could still feel his eyes on me but I didn’t care.
I found Sky and Tyler and a couple of my other friends. We sat, talked, played games, until we couldn’t keep our eyes open anymore. Tyler drove us home. He was never much of a drinker and was always our designated driver.
“Thanks my loves.” I said as I kissed them both on the cheek. I waved goodbye and Sky made me promise to come over after my shift tomorrow. I walked upstairs completely ignoring my mom. That’s how our relationship was. Ignore her or face all of her judging comments. I ran up to my room and got into my pajamas.
I tried my best to go to sleep but that damn Harry Styles kept popping back into my mind. Who was he to try and talk to me? I hated people like him and usually kept my distance. His dad sent him to some private, snooty boarding school freshmen year and I thought he was out of my life for good. He must of come back after he graduated a few weeks ago.
I finally was able to get him out of my head and get to sleep. Of course I had a dream of kissing Harry. It wasn’t what I expected. It was soft, sweet and gentle. It was actually pretty amazing. He began to say something but I was woken up my ‘wonderful’ alarm. I groaned and got ready for work. I didn’t have time to shower so I just tied my hair back, changed, and got out the door.
When I arrived at the diner, thankfully, Nancy was nowhere to be found. I tied my apron on and put on my stupid nametag. Why did people I was serving need to know my name? I heard a sound in the broom closet. Who else would be in there at this hour.
“SPENCE” I yelled as he emerged out of the broom college. I ran over and hugged him. Spencer must of just gotten back from his freshmen year at college and Nancy let him work here again. He was like my older brother and my partner in crime at the diner.
“Hey Riles!” He greeted me as I finally pulled away from our hug. “How was Nancy without me?” He whispered and I shook my head.
“Even more awful.” I whispered back as he smiled. But where was Nancy? She was always here to scold me if I was even a minute late. I looked around for her but she was no where to be found.
“And this is the kitchen.” I heard her high-pitched voice from the kitchen. Spencer and I both turned our heads in that direction. Who in the staff didn’t know where the kitchen was? I shrugged and threw a washcloth towards Spencer. We both cleaned the counter. When he got close to me, I hip-bumped him. He looked at me with a fake shocked expression as he hip-bumped me back. We turned when we heard Nancy clearing her throat.
“This is our new owner and his son.” She pointed towards a rather attractive old man and…. Harry? Of course It was his rich father buying another spot in town for fun. I wondered how long until he owned the entire town. It wasn’t a very large town.
“Hi I’m Kenneth and this is my son Harry.” He said as he held out his hand towards Spencer and I. We both introduced ourselves. Harry’s eyes were locked on mine. Oh god, this meant I had to see him way more often.
