Goodbyes

I woke up in a puddle of sunlight draining in from the window. Stretching out from my curled position, I sat up and rubbed my eyes. That had been the best sleep I'd had in a long time. I picked up my clothing and changed in the washroom, brushing my teeth and braiding my hair in two's. I pulled on some boots and made up my bed neatly. Rey snored softly. I crept
out of the room, not wanting to wake her. As I turned around, I ran smack dab into a golden humanoid.

"Oh my god," I muttered under my breath, recovering from the mini heart attack he had given me, "Who are you?"

"Why, I'm C-3p0!" The humanoid exclaimed, "I am the night guard!"

He was very close to my face, staring me down. I felt very extremely uncomfortable. "Who are you?" He asked me.

"My name is Violet." I answered simply, scooting back from him, "I'm just here for the time being."

"Why? If Organa Leia has invited you, I don't believe leaving is the answer! She'll hunt you down, mistress Violet." He explained.

"She's my aunt," I told him, "But if I stay here for too long the First Order will find us. Their looking for the map to Luke Sky-- er, my father. We have it. They'll kill us."

"You're mistress Skywalker!" He exclaimed, "That is who I was looking for! They need you and your sister in command straight away. Come, come."

As I was about to tell him that Rey was still asleep, she popped behind me.

"Wha--"

"I heard you talking to the gold thing."

I stared at her, dumbfounded. She was already dressed and ready.

"Mistress Rey, I presume? My name is C-3P0, not the gold thing." 3P0 said sassily, escorting us to command.

I stifled a laugh as Rey's eyes widened at the humanoid. I don't think she was expecting it. We entered command, Finn greeting us briefly before turning back to the screen.

"That's Star Killer Base," he told the group of resistance pilots, "They have their fleet already scrambled and are readying them for attack on us. When we crash landed, they still had their locks on us. They know we landed somewhere on D' Quar, but they don't know the resistance base is here. We need to get Violet and the droid off of this planet as soon as possible. They will kill her to get the information they need."

I felt a pit in my stomach begin to grow. BB-8 beeped hesitantly at my feet.

"We can't leave the map here," Leia spoke up, "They'll track us and destroy the whole base. I'd rather have you and Violet safe on another planet that is light years away from here than to have the whole base blown up."

"We can't guarantee her safety," Rey intervened, "They could find her."

"She's going with the droid. Right now, it's the safest and most effective plan we have. We'll send her with supplies and something to communicate to us with." Leia said in a tone that meant business.

Rey stood for a moment, a frazzled look on her face. She was torn between my safety and the map.

"I'm going with her." She said flatly.

Han threw his hands up in the air. "Why are you Skywalkers so stubborn?"

"She isn't being stubborn. It might be better for her to go with Violet. Ren wants the map, and will destroy anything in his way to get it. He's no doubtably going to want the Skywalker children as well. If their father is the strongest with the force in the Galaxy, they aren't going to be far behind. He's scared of things that are stronger than him. He's going to want Rey and Violet eliminated, so she should go with her." Finn explained.

This made me feel hopeless. I was now wanted by the biggest villain in the Galaxy.

"He's got a point, Han," Leia said, "I want the girls and the droid off of D' Quar in half an hour. But I want Finn to go with them."

Finn looked taken aback for moment, but quickly smiled proudly and stuck out his chest.

"I knew this day would always come," He boasted, "I'm the bodyguard!"

Leia rolled her eyes. "Don't get cocky. You best get your things packed and ready, and we'll send you out."

Goodbyes were strange. I never understood them. Saying goodbye to someone just didn't feel right. It was even worse this time. I had finally been reunited with lost family, just to be yanked away from them again. It wasn't fair.

So I pouted. Sulked. Frowned. Folded my arms and huffed. Nobody could get one word out of me until we left.

"Stay safe," Leia said softly, kissing Rey's cheek, "And keep an eye on that sister of yours. She's sneaky."

"Of course." Rey answered, pulling back to stand with Finn and I.

They turned to me one last time, hoping I'd have a change in heart and say goodbye. It was hard. I swallowed back a growing lump in my throat and ran to Leia. My arms wrapped around her like a vice as I weeped into her dress. My body heaved heavily as I choked on my sobs.

"I don't want to go," I cried, "I want to stay here."

Her fingers played with one of my braids as she pulled me closer.

"You'll be so much safer on a different planet. I promise." She planted a firm kiss on the top of my head and gently pulled away from me. She held me at arms length. "Rey and Finn will look after you. Now scoot before I start to cry."

She choked up on the last word.

Rey took my hand and practically dragged me onto the millennium falcon. Tears streaked my face. I turned to look back at Han, Leia and Chewbacca one last time before the door shut. The ship took off into space, shooting forward at light speed. We landed on the planet, making a thump.

By now, it was dark out. We set up camp in the ship, laying out two sleeping bags on the floor. One person would keep watch while the others slept. We'd switch halfway through the night. Rey offered me some food, but I I clamped my mouth shut and declined. I was suddenly overtaken by exhaustion and my strong will. I excused myself and laid down in one of the bags. My eyes grew heavy. The last thing I saw before I was taken into a dreamless slumber was BB-8 shutting off power to sleep beside me.

It would be my last peaceful sleep.
