Chapter Twenty-Two – Quid Pro Quo

AN: reminder, this has two pov's in it. Enjoy.

Rein smirked, appearing from the shadows. Ryder was speechless for a long while, five minutes to be exact, he studied the identical face staring back at him. His features were exactly like his except for a few things. Rein had his brow pierced with a spike tip, and his face was completely shaven clean; except for a stubbled mustache and jaw.

"How... how is this possible?" Ryder tipped his head to the right and watched his twin tilt his head to the left. He was stunned, rendered speechless. All he could do was stare in awe. He had a twin. All this time. He had a brother he had never known about. All that time wasted. So much could have happened, been prevented... had he known he had a Brother and had grown up with him.

Rein pulled Ryder into a hug, squeezing him tightly, "Hello, Ghost. I'm Rein, your twin serial killer Brother. I know. What are the odds we are both fucked up in the head, eh?"

Ryder raised his brows upon hearing his brothers thick London accent, a smile twitching at his lips as his arms circled his brother, "How did you catch me in the act? I am always very careful. You'd think I'd be more surprised that you're a killer as well, but I'm not. I need to know how you caught me. Because if you caught me, then someone else could have too. And I definitely don't need the heat of the police on my tail."

Rein chuckled and broke the hug, his dimples denting his cheeks, "When you came to London, I sought you out. I had learned that our Mother had a dirty little secret and I was quite determined to find you. I was just lucky you'd come to my town. But once I saw you, I kept track of where you went, what you did. I saw everything you did to that woman and I couldn't have been more proud then I was at that moment. To realize that I had a brother who was not only my twin, but shared the same kind of dark, twisted fantasies as I did. That dark, cold look that shined in your eyes, it looked familiar. You were on a mission and I eagerly watched out of sight. We have so much to catch up on, Brother. Oh, and no one else was around. I made sure of that." He grinned widely.

Ryder nodded, his signature charming smile twitching at his lips. "Yes. Mother had plenty of dirty little secrets. Probably still does. Why didn't you approach me in London? Why follow me home to introduce yourself?"

"I needed a break away from London. Have you not seen the news there? They have called me, "The Shadow." It's fitting. They know I'm there with them, following them, their instincts are screaming at them to run, but they don't. They push it to the back of their mind and brush it off as paranoia. But like a shadow, I stick behind them until it's time to take them. Then, I disappear into the night with my Pet.

"Onto another subject, who is this lovely Poppet you're so infatuated with? Why have you not disposed of her yet? Obviously, she doesn't know who's hiding behind that charming mask of yours. So, what's yer deal, brother?"

Ryder tensed at the mention of Layla. How could he approach this subject lightly without putting a blood-thirsty killer on her trail? Ryder put on a charming smile and spoke honestly.

"Layla does not know anything about what I am. It is going to stay that way, to protect her, and myself. I like her. Simple as that. I will not kill her and nor will you. Understand? She is off limits."

Ryder stared at his Brother, authority rolling off him in waves. He could see the calculating look in his Brother's gaze. Rein arched his pierced brow, slightly narrowing his eyes and tilting his head.
