I spent the rest of the night thinking about what had just happened. I was going on a date with Calum Hood and I couldn't be happier about it. The only problem was his friends. I knew they wouldn't accept me with him but I couldn't let them ruin another part of my life. If I wanted to be with Calum I had the right to and they couldn't stop me.
**Few days later**
The week had gone by faster than I though. It was already Friday and there I was standing in front of my wardrobe trying to figure out what to wear. "You're way too nervous" I heard Michel laugh from behind me, "Hey! Don't laugh! You know dates never go well with me!" I whined, before picking out a pair of ripped skinny jeans, a vest and a flannel. "Do you think this will look good?" I asked holding up the outfit I had put together. "Ava, he said he wanted you to dress casually. That doesn't mean you spend hours in front of a mirror trying on thousands of different outfits, that means you pick the first thing you see that goes together and put it on." I took a deep breath and sat down. Michael was right, I was stressing too much. He sat down beside me and gave me a reassuring smile, "Everything will be fine, just relax" He said and left me to get ready.
I took on last look at my outfit before sitting down to do my make up. There was a knock on my front door and I heard Michael answer it, there were footsteps up the stairs and before I knew it I had Mae standing at my door. "So is it true?" She asks, I looked at her with confusion. "What? Is what true?" She rolled her eyes before replying, "You're going on a date with Calum Hood?!" She basically shouted. I smiled at the mention of his name, Mae could already tell by the look on my face that it was true. "Ava! Why didn't you tell me right after he asked you out? I could have came over and helped you get ready!" She said excitedly, "Calm down, I didn't want to make a big deal out of it just yet. It could go horribly wrong." I replied, trying not to become any more nervous than I already was. "Well, at least let me do your make up then," She pleaded. Mae was always great at make up so I knew I didn't have to worry about that.
Mae was nearly done with my make up when there was another knock at my bedroom door, I already knew it was Michael since he has a very specific way of knocking at my door. "Come in!" I shouted and let Mae finish putting on blush. "Hey, Calum is downst- Woah. Mae really does have a talent for this shit" He laughed, "I really hope that was a compliment" I said jokingly before grabbing my my hoodie and heading downstairs. I jogged downstairs and into the kitchen to grab my house keys, then I headed into the living room to see Calum looking extremely nervous. "Hey, you" I said feeling really proud of myself for speaking up. "Oh hey, you look great" He replied, this made me really shy. I wasn't used to getting compliments from hot guys from school. Calum was wearing his usual ripped skinny jeans, a band tee which happen to be a nirvana one this time, a flannel and his jacket with his surname written in blue letters at the back. He was wearing black converse and a beanie was placed on his head. I have to admit he looked extremely handsome and I couldn't help but stare. "Ready to go?" He asked holding his hand out, which I happily took. We left my house and headed towards the cinema.
**About 30 minutes later**
We were about 20 minutes into the movie and both me and Calum were getting bored but we didn't want to leave in case the movie got better. "You know, I always though cinemas were a bit lame" He whispered to me, I looked at him and said "Wanna get out of here?" He nodded and we left the cinema hand in hand. "So what do you want to do now?" He asked, for about 10 minutes now we've been walking aimlessly and just getting to know each other better. "Well we could keep walking with no actual point to it, or we could actually do something fun?" I said suggestively, "I have an idea but I don't think you're bad enough to do it" He tried not to laugh. "That depends on what it is we're doing" I replied trying to sound as serious as I could. "I don't think you're ready to hear this but, We're going to eat pancakes!" He exclaimed excitedly, I don't think I've ever seen anyone as excited for pancakes as he was. When we finally got to the pancake place, i was so shocked at how the building looked. It was huge and lit up, the tables looked like pancakes and the stools looked like spatulas. "Where the hell did you find this place?" I asked still looking around. Calum laughed slightly before answering "Luke used to take his lady friends here all the time so one time I tagged along just to see what impressed them so much. Not gonna lie, I kind of hoped it would impress you too, " He laughed again before dragging me to a table, it was 8 yet there were still so many people there. "So how comes I've never heard of this place then?" I asked when we finally settled at a table, Calum sat opposite me, "Well they don't exactly advertise, It's just one of them places that you walk past and you know you wanna try it" I still couldn't stop looking around, everything was so clean ans the colours looked so good together, turquoise blue, baby pink and white. It looked perfect.
The whole night was spent talking about everything and nothing. Spending time with him made me feel so welcome, I don't know what it was about him but he made me feel like i could be myself around him. He wasn't pretending to be anyone and I wasn't either, it all just felt right. "So, I know this hasn't got anything to do with our date, but, how comes youre so different from Luke?" I asked, I wasn't really sure what I was expecting him to say, but I definitely wasn't ready for what he did say. "The truth is, I never liked what Luke was doing. I was never okay with him bullying you but I was scared to tell him so." I stared at him with shock. The Calum Hood was scared of his best friend Luke. "Look. Ava, I know I joined in with Luke sometimes but I saw what he did to you. I saw how he hurt you and the one thing I did know was that I didn't want to end up like that. I hated how I never helped you or never stopped him; I knew he went too far and I could have stopped him but I never did." He put his head in his hands and started lightly tugging on his hair, I took both of his hands in mine before saying, "Hey, it's okay" I smiled "We're here now aren't we? I can tell you're sorry, otherwise we wouldn't be here. None of this would have happened if you weren't sorry. Just leave it behind you, please. For me?" I pleaded, trying to get him to look at me. "Please, Calum?" That seemed to work. He looked up and gave me a warm smile, which I returned.
Each conversation, each look, each smile seemed to bring Calum and I closer and closer but it was getting late and sooner or later, our date would have to end. It was 10:20 and when we decided to start heading back and since it was really late, it was quite cold. Calum must have noticed that I was getting cold because he gave me his jacket. His actions made me feel really safe especially since it was his name on the jacket. The night was great overall until he saw us. Luke. "Why the fuck is this bitch wearing your jacket?" He questions, clearly directing Calum. I expected Calum to say something stupid just to take the piss or entertain Luke but he didn't. "Well, Luke, we were on a date and then we decided to go back so we left that pancake place and she got cold so I gave it to her" He replied bluntly, before beginning to turn back around. Luke however, wouldn't let him, "Don't fucking turn your back on me! What the fuck is going on? This is a jok- Ohhh I get it, nobody would date her so you became her pity date! How nice of you Calum!" He burst out into a fit of laughter. Calum gave me an apologetic smile before turning back to face Luke, he sighed before saying "No. Luke. I like Ava so I invited her on a date, not that you'd know what a date is since you've never actually been on one." Once again Calum turned round, this time putting his arm around me. We both began walking away leaving Luke to laugh by himeself. The whole journey home was silent but it was comfortable scilence, I guess we were both just too tired to talk but I didn't mind.
