Chapter 4: But It's One In the Morning

~River's POV~

"River.... River... Come on River.... Waakkke uppp...." I heard someone whispering to me.

Someone began shaking me, trying to wake me up. I rubbed my eyes and rolled over to see Riker looking at me, smiling widely.

"Riker what are you doing?" I whisper-shouted.

His eyebrows scrunched up together as if he was confused as to why it was strange to wake someone up while it's still dark outside, "Just get dressed and meet me outside the bus."

With that, he tip toed away, careful not to wake anyone else up, besides me. "But it's one in the morning," I muttered to myself after checking my phone, almost blinding myself from it's bright light.

I tried not to groan too loud as I rolled over and got out of my bunk. I tip toed to the back room where my clothes were, along with the others'. I picked out a pink flowy tank top and some short denim shorts. I wasn't sure what he wanted me to wear, so this would do.

I quietly tip toed out of the bus. I quietly closed the door and turned around. I didn't realize Riker was right behind me, so I tripped over his shoe and fell over. He quickly caught me and held me there, staring into my eyes.

"Uh... Thanks Riker," I said. He smiled, and of course, I smiled back.

"Anytime," he said as he stood me upright.

I quickly smoothed out the wrinkles out o my tank top and looked at Riker, "What exactly did you want to do considering you woke me up at one in the morning?"

He smirked, "Follow me!"

I did as I was tld and followed him. I wasn't sure where exactly we were going, but I'm sure it was somewhere fun seeing as I was with Riker. I followed him as we made twists and turns down the road and over a few hills.

"Riker I'm tired of walking. How much further?" I asked after about 30 minutes of walking.

"Not too much farther now. Here, get on my back," he said, bending down so I could reach him.

I hesitated, "Riker, I don't think that's a good-"

"No it's fine. You are light as a feather. Just get on," he insisted.

I sighed and jumped on his back. He adjusted to my weight and kept walking. At one point, we started chanting, "Hut, two, three four. Hut, two, three, four."

"Okay we're here," he said, not letting me off his back, although I'm sure the extra weight was crushing him by now.

"But.... it's empty," I stated, looking at the field of grass, sprinkled lightly with a few flowers here and there.

He set me down on my feet, "Exactly."

He took my hand and led me to the middle of the field. He sat down and patted the space beside him, wanting me to do the same. I sat down and looked up at the stars.

"They're so beautiful here. Nothing like they are in LA," I said, captivated by their beauty.

I felt his eyes on me as he said, "Not as beautiful as you though."

"Very cheesy and cliche. I like it," I joked, looking over at him.

He took my hand and intertwined our fingers together, "Now we don't have a gig. We can spend time out here together... alone."

"And what would you like to do while we're... alone?" I said playfully.

"Well, there's this rule about no girlfriends on the bus, so I can't really do what I want to do," he sighed, looking back up at the stars.

I smiled and looked at his face, lit by the light of the moon, "Good thing we're not on the bus then."

He looked over at me with confusion in his eyes. I took this opportunity to lean in. He realized what I was talking about and smiled, leaning in as well.

His lips brushed mine slowly, then his lips were fully pressed against mine. I smiled as his hand rested on my cheek and I let my hands snake around his neck. I don't know why people always said fireworks went off, because they weren't. It was more like a lot of butterflies fluttering about in my stomach, not fireworks.

He pulled away smiling, resting our foreheads together. He had his eyes closed, but mine were open, taking in his every feature. His soft, blonde hair. His small smile. His perfect lips that were begging to be kissed again.

"You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that," he said.

Instead of replying, I pecked his lips quickly. He chuckled a bit and wrapped his arms around me, opening his eyes to look at me.

"Opening act by day, girlfriend by night," I whispered.

He laughed at my comment and held me tighter. I snuggled into his arms and laid my head against his chest.

"It's almost three am. We need to start heading back," he sighed after checking his phone.

He stood and helped me up. We held hands as we walked back, talking and laughing, and yes, occasionally kissing.

When we finally got back to the bus, we stood in front of the door, not wanting to go in just yet.

"How about we do this again the next time the bus is stopped for the night?" he asked.

I smiled and nodded, "Sounds like a plan."

He smiled back and leaned in to kiss me. I stopped him abruptly, "They might be watching. You never know."

He frowned slightly and opened the bus door quietly, letting me tip toe in before closing the door behind him. I smiled at him and went back to my bunk, climbed in, and closed my curtains. Sleep found me quickly after being woken up at one in the morning for the best date ever.
