Immortal Love

Chapter Eight

- Matthew -

  I open up the door to see Alex getting on the bed looking at me and Maya sitting up in bed looking at me also. "Boy, you should know better that to be getting in my daughter's bed," I say sternly. "But she begged me to sit with her," he says pointing at Maya. Chuckling I say, "Well, I need to talk to you for a moment. Meet me in my office, Alex," I say before walking out the door. I hear him following behind me as I walk down stairs to my office. Inside I see Eve sitting in one of the chairs over by the wall. Sitting down in my chair behind my desk Alex walks in to sit down across the desk from me. "Alex I have been talking with your father and he told me about you taking over the pack when you graduate. I think it's about time you talk with Maya about it. Eve and I are very sorry about the lost of your true mate," I tell him. I saw pain in his eyes when I said mate.

  He found his mate when he was ten; she was about eight years old. A couple of months after meeting her, he went to see her to find her home in shambles. Alex and his parents ran into the house to find them. There on the floor of her room covered in blood was Alex mate, Jamie. Enraged by the loss of his mate he shifted into a wolf. About a year later they fond out that a group of rouge wolves had done it, and their pack, Red Cave, killed everyone of the rouges. Since then he has been trying to cope with his loss and the only person that has been able make him forget is my daughter,Maya.

  Nodding his head he said, "I will after graduation. I just hope she will come to love me like I love her." Eve reaches over and patted his hand saying, "She will need time to think over everything, but I know she will be happy and safe with you if she does decide to accept." "I promise she will be," he pauses before saying,"there is something I have been meaning to talk with y'all about. The guest art teacher, Mr. VanAllen, is a vampire." My wife and I gasp when he said vampire. Nodding his head he continues saying, "And he seem to like Maya and I am worried about her safety. So if it's alright I would like to stay here as much as I can. I don't want to risk him wanting to take her for a blood slave." "You can stay as long as you like. I don't want Maya hurt," I tell him as I glance up thinking about the possible danger my baby girl is in. Giving us an intense look he says, "You both need to be careful too. He has to be a strong vampire because he could hind his sent from me very well." Looking over to Eve I see her pale and shaky, meeting my eyes she asks Alex "What can we do?"

   Halfway through the movie Alex walks in with a faraway look. Once he is sitting beside me, I ask, "Is something wrong?" Looking over to me he shakes his head and says, "No, I just have a lot on my mind. Think about this we will be graduated this Friday night." "Oh, don't remind me. I am dreading it. College and having to study extra hard just to pass," I tell him. "Well, being as smart as you are you'll have nothing to worry about." Giving him a shocked look I say, "Me? Look at you, you could pass without even going to class three days a week. And you miss one day a week already." Laughing he says, "Well, thank you, ma'am. I will consider that a compliment."

   After the movie is over I head down stairs and walk into the kitchen to help my mom with dinner. "Hey, can you watch the steaks? I need to finish the cream potatoes," mom asks me. "I will but what are they supposed to do? Jump, dance?" I asked as she walked over to the counter to finish with the potatoes. Turning to me she gives me a stern look saying, "Probably not, but watch them anyways." Chuckling to myself, I say, "OK, captain, your the boss." "I promise you are just like your dad when it comes to your since of humor." Flipping the stakes over I say, "Is that a compliment or an insult ?" "It depends. Go call them and tell them dinner is ready," she says after I put the steaks on a big platter.

   I walk over to my dad's office to find the door open and my dad leaning over a pile of paperwork. Pulling him in his rolling chair, I drag him away from his desk and say, "Dinner is ready. Now, stop looking at those papers so you can eat." Pushing up from his chair he says, "Alright." Once out of his office I run up stair to get Alex.

  After telling him dinner is ready I head back down stairs with Alex. As we walk in Alex let's out a whistle saying, "I have died and went to heave. It looks amazing." My mom smiled and said, "Why thank you, Alex. I hope you enjoy it." While loading his plate with food he replies, "I always enjoy your cooking." Throughout the rest of dinner we chatted about my parents work. After dinner my dad helped my mom clean up while Alex and I went into the living room.
