Evan Mathews

I arrived at school to see my beautiful best friend standing by her locker.

"Hey Tabby, what's up?"

"Nothing much." She said abruptly. Hmm something was wrong. I could always tell when Tabitha was upset because she wouldn't be acting like her spunky, sarcastic self.

"What happened? Is everything okay?"

"My dad busted me, I'm grounded." She sighed and started digging for something in her locker. I should have known, I saw what had happened to her at that party. She had been completely wasted; I remember that, despite being quite tipsy myself, but then she had left the party without me knowing. I had just figured she had gone home, but then I heard rumors that she had been picked up by the cops.

"Sorry Tabs, how long are you grounded for?" She sighed again and mumbled something that sounded like "forever". She turned around and faced me, her gorgeous green eyes glistening with what looked like tears.

"Can you meet me tonight, at the usual spot?" She said while looking down at the books in her hands.

"Of course"

"Thanks Ev, you're the best. See you at 10"

"See ya". She turned and walked away. I watched her walk down the hall, her shiny auburn curls bouncing as she walked. Man she is so beautiful. She doesn't know this, but I have been in love with her since the day we met. We became best friends in art class during freshman year. Sure, we both sucked at painting, but we had a lot of fun in that class. I've loved her for over two years now, but I know she doesn't feel the same way. We're just best friends: nothing more, nothing less.

I walked into my first period english class with Tabitha still on my mind.

"Hey man!" my friend Cole shouted over to me.

"Hey" I replied curtly.

"Are you okay man? You seem down." Cole looked at me questioningly.

"Yeah it's just Tabitha was really upset this morning and-"

"Oh I should have known." Cole said interrupting me.

"Huh?"

"Come on dude it's so obvious"

"What is?" I asked, confused.

"That you like her"

"I do not-"

"Save it". That's when the bell rang, signaling for us to take our seats. "This isn't over" Cole said, nudging me before he left to go over to his seat on the other side of the classroom. How would Cole know that I have feelings for Tabitha? Is it that obvious? Shaking my head, I sat down and let my thoughts escape me.
