Tabitha Warren
Ugh I can't believe my dad. I spent so long trying to reason with him when I got home from school and he's still mad at me. I just want to lock myself in my room and stay there forever because well, my life sucks. Now that I think about it, I really have nothing going for me. That is besides Evan, of course.
I walked up the stairs to my room and shut the door behind me. I checked the time on my phone and saw that it was 9:43.
"Well I guess I better go meet Evan now, see you later, Roxy." Roxy looked up at me from her place on my bed and sighed, laying her head back down. I took one last look in the mirror then walked over to my window and opened it. I carefully placed one foot on a branch of the large tree next to my window and climbed out. Once I made my way to the ground, I started walking to me and Evan's secret hideout. When we were 14, we discovered a little cave out in the woods by our houses. We're pretty sure that nobody else knows about it, so we consider it our special place. We always have secret meetings here so we can just talk and confide in each other. I think I've always kind of had a thing for Evan. Okay to tell the truth, I've secretly been in love with him ever since we met. I know that's crazy because there is no way he would ever like a girl like me. He's absolutely perfect.
I made my way through the woods and I saw Evan's dark figure as I approached the cave.
"Hey Tabs" he said smiling at me.
"Hey." I mumbled sitting down next to him. It was a really cold night and I shivered, pulling my knees up to my chest.
"Are you cold?" he asked with a concerned look on his face.
"Nah, I'm fine"
"Tabby, I'm not stupid" he said as he pulled his jacket off and placed it around my shoulders.
"No really, I'm fine" I said shrugging his jacket off. He had a mysterious glint in his eye, I couldn't read him at all. It's weird because I can usually tell what he's thinking.
"You're so stubborn. So what did you want to talk to me about?" He said as he placed the jacket back around my shoulders.
"Nothing. I've just been having a hard time and I wanted to see you." I said as tears sprung to my eyes. Stupid hormones, why do you have to betray me now? Evan wrapped his strong arms around me and pulled me close, wiping my tears away with his thumb.
"Shh it's okay. Everything's going to be all right." He whispered as he stroked my hair.
"How could I have gotten so lucky? Out of all of the people you could have chosen to be your best friend, you picked me. I don't deserve you. You're so amazing and I'm just a screw over." I cried as I burried my face in his chest.
"How could you even say that!" He yelled, startling me. I lifted my head up and looked at him, slowly backing away. His eyes were lit up with fury and something else, lust? No, it could't be. "You are not a screw over! If anything, I'm not good enough for you!" He was scaring me, he actually looked mad. I started crying again, shielding my face from Evan.
"I...I'm.." I choked out, looking up at him. Suddenly Evan dropped to his knees with his head in his hands. His shoulders started shaking and his hands started trembling. I slowly got up and walked over to him. I put my hand on his back and started rubbing it soothingly. He lifted his head and looked at me, his chocolate brown eyes red with tears.
"I'm so so so so sorry. I can't believe that I just did that, I'm a horrible person. I just get so mad when you put yourself down like that because...well because you're beautiful and perfect in every way imaginable." He stood up to face me, and I placed my small hands is his large ones.
"You are not a horrible person at all. You are one of the nicest people I know, thank you for caring about me."
"You don't have to thank me, of course I care about you." he said as his eyes flickered back and forth from the ground to my eyes then back at the ground again.
"Do you really think I'm beautiful?" I whispered looking up at him. He nodded, his eyes glistening in the moonlight. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he enveloped me in a huge hug. We stood in each other's embrace for a couple of minutes before I pulled away, my lips just centimeters from his. I wanted to close that gap so badly, to confess my love for him. But what if he doesn't like me back? I can't risk ruining our friendship. I pulled away and he sighed. "I better get home. If my dad finds out that I snuck out of the house, he's literally going to kill me."
"Okay, I'll walk you home" he said taking my hand and pulling me out of the cave.
"You don't have to do that, it's late."
"But I want to, Tabs. It's okay I don't live that far away from you anyways." He said smiling as we walked through the woods, hand in hand. When we got to my house, he pulled me into another hug. "Thanks for forgiving me, you're a good friend." he whispered in my ear.
"You're a better friend than me, thanks for everything, Ev." I whispered back, just in case my dad or brothers were still awake. "Here's your jacket, thanks for letting me use it." I handed him his jacket then started climbing back up the tree that leads up to my window. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow, Tabby" he called up to me before turning around to walk back to his own house.
