We arrived shortly after the talk with my mom about sad endings. It would be an understatement to say I was extremely nervous. I tried focusing on making sure we got the right luggage and that I was ready to spend the holidays with my grandma, but that didn't exactly work. Maybe it did work for half an hour while me and my parents talked about possible food options for Christmas and New Year. That conversation ended quickly though because my mom said she already had the whole thing planned. So much for a distraction.
We took a taxi and rode in silence for about twenty minutes before we arrived in front of my grandma's house. It was a small, beige brick house with a colorful garden out front. I took a minute to take in all the memories from growing up here when I was little until I was bout 10 and we moved a couple blocks away. My parents wanted a place of their own but didn't want to leave my grandma alone after my grandfather died, so once we found out there was a house on sale not to far from her house, we moved.
"Hi mom!" yelled out Mom while she went over to hug my grandma. She looked skinnier than usual. I wondered if I should be worried about anything. I decided I would put the thought away for later and went over to hug her and then go back to the taxi, which its driver seemed to be waiting impatiently , and help my dad with our suitcases.
After we got then down and into the house, we went into the kitchen where Grandma had prepared our meal. We ate while talking about how our flight went and all that kind of stuff. Once we finished eating, my mom and dad stayed behind to clean up while Grandma pulled me aside to talk.
"Honey, are you okay, ?" I was seriously getting tired of hearing that question.
"Yeah Grandma, I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?"
"Because I know you and I know that you must be nervous about seeing those two young men again," she says looking at me with sympathy. But that only lasted a couple of seconds before she looked me dead in the eye with a firm expression on her face.
"You need to need to grow the courage so when you see them again, you can explain to them what happened. I know how much those boys mean to you and if you really meant something to them, they'll understand."
"But Grandma, you don't understand-"
"No buts, now go on and get some Vegemite and toast for tomorrow's breakfast."
"Okay.." I say, knowing that if I said anything other than that I would be in trouble. And being in trouble with Grandma isn't something I like very much. So I walked a couple of blocks down from the house to the grocery store to pick up tomorrow's breakfast. For a person who hadn't been in her hometown for two years, I still knew my way around pretty well.
I walked into the store and make my way into the third aisle where I find what I"m looking for.
"Calum stop! You're gonna mess up my hair!"
"What are you talking about? It's already messed up!"
I stop dead in my tracks when I realize who those voices belong to. And my heart skipped a couple of beats when I realized they were right behind me and were getting closer.
"Shut up or you're out of the band!" says Luke in a serious tone before he bursts out laughing.
"Oh no! I'm so scare... Sarah?? Is that you ?" asks Calum with uncertainty and complete surprise in his voice.
I turn to look at them and sure enough, there they were standing right in front of me looking at me expectantly.
"Hey guys...long time no see huh?"
