(Drew's pov)
- Saturday 11am-
"Drew, wake up honey. It's 11am. Don't you have somewhere to go?"
Mom gently knocks on my bedroom door, bringing me out of my sleep.
"Yea, I'm getting up mom."
Groaning, I sit up from my bed. Mom's talking about my date with Rachel. I've been waiting for this day since I was 13. I finally asked her out on Monday. We were at school, and I came up to her while she was at her locker. It sort of just happened. Of course, I was nervous as fuck, but I did it. I asked her if she wanted to go ice skating, secretly screaming inside, and she said yes. Damn, I was so happy. I threw a personal parade in my room that day.
Now, this is actually happening. I have to get ready. I have to take a shower. I have to hurry up. My date's in an hour, and I still have to take a shower.
"Dammit."
I toss the sheets aside and strip down as I hurry to the shower. I scrub off any blemishes and drowsiness. After my shower, I put on some nice-smelling lotion. I brush my teeth, face, and hair before adding on some cologne, not too much. Now for the outfit.
I go with a simple black t-shirt and jeans, including a silver chain.
"You can do this."
I whisper to myself as a encouraging push.
"Aw, look how handsome you are."
Mom comes up to me and smiles proudly, her eyes watered.
"Mom, it's ok."
I roll my eyes but hug her, because I know she's sensitive. Dad told me that she's an emotional person and not to hurt her because she'll take it personal.
"I love you so much."
Mom hugs back as I see dad enter the room.
"I love you too mom."
We break the hug, and dad envelops mom in his arms.
"Let's get going. You've got a date, man."
Dad grabs his car keys while grinning at me.
"You know the rules, right?"
Dad asks as he starts the car and drives.
"I know."
Mentally, I roll my eyes but I give them an agreeing nod.
"Text us when you're ready. Take your time, and enjoy it."
Dad's always been like this, lenient, open minded, generous. I try not to piss him off, because he can easily take it all away.
Once we're at the ice skating rink, my parents wish me good luck as I step out of the car. They're not the type to hover over me. Plus, I'm pretty sure they've got other plans.
Once I'm the building, I look around for Rachel. I find her sitting at a table on her phone. She looks flawless from afar. Just wait until I'm up close to her.
"Rachel, hey."
Nervously, I walk up to her, my heart pumping rapidly.
"Hey."
She stands up, revealing her outfit. She's wearing a coral colored blouse with dark skinny jeans and some brown boots. Her hair is straightened and she smells like bubblegum.
"How long have you been waiting?"
Man, I hope I didn't keep her waiting.
"Only, like, 2-3 minutes. I just got here."
She smiles, her braces showing but she still looks beautiful.
"Ok, good. Are you ready?"
I brush my arm over hers as I lead her to the counter.
"Yea."
Her face flushes a little as she watches me pull out a $20 bill.
"I can pay you back."
She offers, looking guilty.
"Nah, it's ok.
It's the way it works. The guy always has to pay for the girl. That's what dad says.
"What size are you?"
Motioning to the skates, I ask her.
"Five."
She replies while fiddling around with her fingers.
"Here."
I hand her the skates while grabbing my size in skates. We go over to a bench to put on our skates.
"Have you ever been skating before?"
Rachel fits on her skates, her mocha-colored hair covering her hazelnut eyes.
"I've been here a few times. You?"
My heart won't settle down. She's so perfect. I feel like I'm meeting her for the first time, even though we've known each other since we were babies. We're like cousins, but technically—and legally—we can date.
"It's not my best quality, but I'm ok."
She flicks her hair out of her face and smiles at me. Damn. I chuckle and help her up.
We laugh at how much harder it is to walk in ice skates.
"Be careful."
I hold her tight as we walk onto the ice. Her smile widens, and I can sense her hearts beating faster. We spend the first 5-10 minutes catching each other and holding each other up; then we actually start to get the hang of it.
"Race you to the other side."
Rachel giggles and challenges me before she starts toward the other side of the rink.
"Hey no fair!"
I race after her only for her to beat me.
"I won."
She boasts, making me admire her confidence.
"You got a head start."
I point out, not caring because I probably would've let her win anyway.
"Is that a rematch?"
She raises her eyebrows, in a girly way.
"You bet."
I grin at her exquisiteness. Honestly, I've never known a girl better than Rachel. She's so cute in her own way, and I'd love her any day.
"1-2-3, go!"
She calls, and we start skating as fast as we can to the other side. Of course, I let her win without making it too obvious.
"Aw, you won."
I pretend to be defeated as she giggles bashfully.
We keep skating until I run out of breath.
"Shit, I can't stop!"
Rachel gasps before colliding into me, making me hit the rail and fall on my ass.
"Omigod, are you ok? I'm sorry."
She covers her mouth, her eyes widened yet filled with amusement.
"It's ok. Watch your mouth, babe."
I smirk, realizing that she's sitting on my lap, facing me.
"Oops, sorry."
Her cheeks burn into a light pink, as she smiles shyly.
"Now, where were we?"
I stand up and help her up as well.
"I'm actually pretty hungry. I didn't have breakfast."
She places her hand on her stomach.
"Ok, let's get something to eat."
I put my hand on her back and lead her out of the rink. We take our skates off, for now. We'll put them back on after we eat.
"There's a Subway. You want that?"
I suggest, and she nods while following me. I order her a turkey sandwich with American cheese and spinach on Italian bread. Then I order myself the same thing, except with lettuce. She gets Cheetos and I get Doritos, and we decide to share a peanut butter cookie.
"Thanks for paying, for everything."
She sounds like it's optional to me. It's not.
"You don't have to thank me, because this is all I'm gonna do."
I give her a teasing smirk, making her roll her eyes.
"You're not funny."
She smiles as she sips from her water.
"I'm so offended baby."
The name calling is getting a bit out of control.
"Stop."
Rachel blushes and smiles like I'm the best person ever.
"How long are you allowed to stay?"
I ask before biting into my sandwich.
"My parents told me 3 hours."
She smiles, popping a cheeto in her mouth. I take a glance at her lips, only to desperately need a distraction.
"We still have another hour and a half."
I point out while checking the time, so I can stop staring at her.
"I think we should wait awhile before we go back out. I'm too full."
Rachel smiles, wanting to spend personal time with me. No problem.
"C'mon, let's go sit down somewhere else."
I take her hand and lead her to a sitting area by the elevators. It has a few small couches, so I sit on one, inviting Rachel beside me. She takes a seat, and I put my arm around her, in a friendly way.
"I'm having a great time, Drew."
She eventually rests her head on my shoulder.
"Me too. We should do this more often."
I insist as our hands intertwine with each other. It's not awkward at all. If we could, we'd probably kiss right now. But I didn't ask her out just to kiss her on the first date. We have our whole lives ahead of us. I'll kiss her when the time is right.(A/N: I should do more like this one☺️ Next post is on Thursday)
